    1. MANDEVILLE
    2. I hope that someone can help me. A great uncle, Walter C. BROSS (born in Sussex Co., 1853 and died 1930) married Sarah BOWDEN, born about July 1852 in Essex Co., NJ. They had a daughter, Marion B. BROSS (born May 1882) who married a MANDEVILLE. At the time her father wrote his will, he named her executrix. He died 21 June 1930 and at that time, her address was: Marion B. Mandeville 74 Harrison Pl., Irvington, NJ Does anyone know if she is survived by any descendants today? Perhaps one of you reading this, might be of this family? Grandchildren or great- grandchildren? They would be my family -- cousins. I would like to make contact with any survivors of this family. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mona Bross Hylton, Richmond, IN

    1. Photo help
    2. Hi friends, My gggrandfather operated a cigar business on Broad St in Newark from 1837 until his death in 1906. The store was first located next to the old city hall (the old hotel) and then at 791 Broad St. While i was at Alexander library at Rutgers a few years ago, I came across a turn of the century photo of the southwest corner of Broad & Market. Just in from the corner you could make out (with the help of a magnifying glass, the sign "Brintzinghoffer". It ran perpendicular to the street, so you can imagine it hung over most of the sidewalk. Anyway, the photo was too small to copy and enlarge, and no source was given for the photo. I had no time to persue it. I also lost the title of the book I was reading. What I'm asking is if anyone should come across this photo or a similar one of the SOUTHWEST corner of Broad & Market taken around the 1895-1900, please let me know. Thanks. 1. Lookups for Declaration of Intention 1851-1860
    2. I wanted to clarify to all about what I was looking at. I have access to a microfilm which lists indexes for individuals who were declaring their INTENT to become citizens of the US - ONLY in the district court of Newark NJ. This is not a census. It has many many many names listed in many years. ONLY the years listed above are BASICALLY in alphabetical order. All other years are a hode podge of alphabetical or actual documents. I have currently over 35 names (and many different spellings) many with no dates and this will take me awhile to look up as you can imagine. Please be patient with me, I am not a professional and may miss some (although I hope you all will receive answers) and am only able to do this on Saturdays when my FHC is open. I will begin this Saturday and will post what I find as soon as I can. Good luck to you all............ Barbara

    1. 1870 census
    2. Fred Brauns
    3. If anyone has access to an 1870 census I would appreciate a lookup. I'm looking for a John Cunningham family with a wife Catherine. In 1870, they had 4 living children -- Peter, John, Mary Anne and Katherine. I have been able to find out info on all of them except John Jr. Could someone tell me the following: In what country John Cunningham Sr. and Catherine were born (I believe it was Ireland) What age was John Jr. in 1870. His death records show he should have been around 9 or 10 but christening records and no birth record in NJ or NY leave me wondering whether he might have been older since his death certificate was indecisive as to his age at time of death. Thanks for any info. Judy in No. Carolina

    1. Convalescent Hospital
    2. Fred Brauns
    3. A few weeks ago I posted a question regarding eh Convalescent Hospital in Newark and that it was located in the Ivy Hill section. Does anyone out there know if this was a regular hospital or it was a special hospital for certain diseases, certain people had to qualify, etc. such as the veterans hospitals throughout the U.S. My gr gr aunt died there and rumor has it that she had 8 brothers, was single and no one in the family wanted to take help take care of her. Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s I found that this was very unusual especially since her mother was taken in by a son and his wife. Any info on the hospital would be appreciated. Judy

    1. Declaration of Intention - Essex Co. 1851-1860
    2. I received the microfilm for the subject above through the FHC - will be willing to do lookups if you think your ancestors might be included. These are just for those who declared in Newark. These are listed alphabetically and fairly easy to read - they will give you the date of intention and stated place of origin (sometimes it was a city, county, state or just country), but it's a start. This microfilm also is inclusive of 1849-1906, however it is not completely alphabetical. If you are fairly sure of the year your ancestor declared, I can also look this up. Just privately email me your ancestors name (first and last AND any alternate spellings) for the 1851-1860 lists. For the other list indexes I would need the name and the approximate year of declaration. I will do the best I can - if I don't come across your names, please don't assume they are not there. I discovered that many were misdated and some added at the end of the indexes out of order. REMEMBER - this is just an index. For my GGUncle it gave me the page from the book for his actual document, however, my GGGrandfather's only contained the information itself, not the document number or the document. You can email me at AVON07717@aol.com Barbara
