    3. Hi Listers!! Wanted to share with you, that Grace Episcopal Ch. has to hire someone to look-up records, and the request has to be in writing..The charge is $50.00. 2. Daer Katherine, This how I found him.. On Cyndis list and Sierra Home page is a link the something called social security death index. If he got benefits and died he may be there. I found 3 with the same name a took a stab at NJ since the others were in OHIO and MINN.. My sly devil used his middle name as his first and changed his b day from 1890 to1898. Furthermore he claimed to have never been married !! I'm sure his wife and 4 kids would not have agreed!! You have to think like a man to find them :) ( to all Men- I'm just kidding!!) Good Luck Renay

    1. Cemetery in Rahway
    2. Arlene Dunkum
    3. Thanks to all who responded to my question about the proximity of Rahway to Westfield. Conclusion - they are about 5 miles apart in Union Co. New question: Which do would have been the most popular cemetery in Rahway or Westfield in the late 1800s for moderate income people? According to family legend, Jacob and Jane Hedden along with their 2 young daughters died in a fire sometime between 1860 and 1870. They were in the 1860 census in Rahway. I am trying to get some idea of which cemetery they would most likely be buried in before I start writing to them. Thanks for your ideas. Arlene

    2. Hi: I forgot to mention that The House of Good Sheperd was supposedly located in Newark. Thanks, Gail in Chicago

    1. House of Good Sheperd
    2. Does anyone know anything about a school (Catholic, I think) called The House of Good Sheperd? A cousin of mine told me that our great-aunt was sent there for a year, back in the early 1900's. Could it have been a home for un-wed mother's? Does the place still exist, and if it does, are records accessible? If it is gone, does anyone know whether any records are still availabe? My cousin's father told her that his sister had been sent to Good Sheperd for a year because she had been "bad." He never said what she did, and now we are thinking that she was possibly pregnant and sent there to deliver her child. If that's the case, no one in the family ever knew she had a baby, but it is a possibility because the stories about her when she was younger is that she was a rebellious, independent, young lady.-----Don't know, just a guess, and wanted to see if anyone knew about The House of Good Sheperd. Thanks, Gail in Chicago

    3. Dear Joan: The 1910 census is available to the public, but it has never been Soundexed, so finding someone in Jersey City means going through all the microfim page by page. The 1920 census is also available and has been Soundexed. Would he be in that one? Judy ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    2. I need someone to go to the Essex County Courthouse for me to copy a will. I wrote to them and they replyed: it is an extensive file and if reproduced may not be legible. They suggested I contact a title searcher or genealogical service. So here I am, begging for help!!!!!!! The docket # 2477-U and is for Edward Alexander McDowell (the painter, not composer). This will was contested for 4 years so I am sure there are many pages. Can anyone out there please assist me and copy this information for me? Thank You, Darlene
