    3. Joann - I don't know whether you'll get any better results, but I suggest that you contact the NJ State Archives. I have always found the staff members there to be very helpful (considerably more so than those at the Dept. of Health). Even if they can't check the index for you they might be able to offer further suggestions. Here's their web address (http://www.state.nj.us/state/darm/archives.html), from which you can get the telephone no. if you want to call. Good luck. 1. 2/21/99 Update
    2. Glenn G. Geisheimer
    3. Hello ECR's, It's been quite an interesting week for me. First I had a computer problem that kept me off-line from last Sunday evening to Tuesday evening. Since then I've been rebuilding my database on my new hard drive. Next came a few new programs that I have to learn and finally my request for web space on the Rootsweb servers came through. Now you're saying what has that got to do with genealogy?? Here is what is going to be happening. Virtual Newark will be moving to a new location, (Rootsweb), in about 6 to 8 weeks. During that time I will be learning the new programs and constructing the new site. The old site will remain just where it is during all this. I will not be adding anything new to it. What I need from you, is feedback for the construction of the new site. I'd like to know any comments on the old site including: Was it easy to navigate? Is there any way to make it easier? Is a textured background or a solid color easier to read? Was the site confusing? If so, how would you change it? Are there any additions you would like to see? (Please remember I'm only one person). And anything else that you can think of. PLEASE send all comments, criticisms, etc. to me via my personal email address and not to the mailing list. Also, during this time I will be slower (g) at answering your emails but please keep your questions coming. I'll try to help as best I can. Also, Also, if anyone would like to assist me in the operation of the Essex County Genealogy Site by expanding a town page (it doesn't have to be like Virtual Newark) please contact me. 1. census index
    2. After spending some time in the FHC and trying to trace my family, I found that many of the census years are not indexed nor do they give a list of Streets that are in an Enumeration District. Along with that, oft times the districts were changed, therefore, the street may have been in one district for one census, then put in another district for the next census. I hope I have made my explanation clear. Dorothy Blakeley NY USA

Book contains chronological list of congregations including when founded, who served there. There is also a listing of all ministers in the denomination (including birth place and date, when ordained, their education, where they served, etc.) in the denomination. There is also a listing of missionaries of the denomination. Judy in VA ancanach@aol.com

    1. 1st Results of Declaration of Intent Lookups
    2. Here are the names of the 1st group I am able to report on from the lookup requests I received for Declaration of Intention for Newark NJ. I managed to cover Volumes 1-3 completely but have Vol. 4 (1853-1877) to go. I also have the bit of the 1900 also. I did not answer all of you privately, as there were so many so I hope you all find who you were looking for. In some cases, I wrote down names which could be a relation if it fitted anything near your request. If it does not match exactly, remember I have the next volume to go (for each volume I search ALL the names each time as I found some duplications and did not know which belonged to the requester especially if they provided me with no dates) Before I list, please make note that I have still some listings left to look at (this is only after 3 hours of looking). However, the volumes and years listed below I did complete. If I do not find your ancestor, remember, 1. I was only looking at Declaration of Intentions for those people who declared in Newark NJ. 2. Your ancestor may have changed the spelling of their name (although I did try to keep an open mind as my ancestors had at least 4 spellings by the time it got to me) 3. I can not provide any additional information on these individuals other than what I will post - that was all that was included on the microfilm. 1. 1920 directory
    2. Fred Brauns
    3. Looking for info on my grandfather. Is there a 1920 or 1930 directory that would tell you the name of the person, their address and their occupation? I'm looking for something similar to the 1880 or 1885 directory where I found his parents. If there is such a directory and someone has the capability of looking info up I would appreciate the following: John G. Farrell (possibly 12th St, Warren St. or Bank St.) His wife's name was Elsie. I am trying to find out if he was a Newark policeman during this time. Thx. Judy in No. Carolina

    1. Newark or Belleville Churches
    2. I wonder if someone will be able to help me. My great great grandfather Rev. Charles W. Rogers, died in Belleville on Mar. 9, 1880. His obituary states that friends and relatives and members of the Halsey and Eight Avenue M & E Churches were invited to attend the funeral from his late residence on the old road to Bloomfield. I am wondering if these churches still exist and would they have any records pertaining to the congregation? I also wrote to the NJ Dept. of Health and Senior Services, Vital Statistics trying to obtain a certificate of his death. I had the exact date of death, his age, the date of burial at Fairmount Cemetery. I received back a “NO RECORD CERTIFICATION”. I sent the request in again, with more information and got the same response. Could someone tell me what I can do next? Thanks for any help you can give, Joann Girard Jagirard@aol.com
