    1. Crane, Wade, Meeker
    2. names
    3. It appears these three names are woven into Essex County. I am the ggg granddaughter of Hannah Wade b Jan 22 1823 and Charles C. Crane (whom I believe to have been born in Essex County) b July 29 1819. She was daughter of David and Joanna ? Wade. She had siblings Edward Francis, David Wheeler, and Stephen Thompson. They lived for at least a time in Trempealeau County, WI where Charles was active in local politics and built some of the first roads. I have a beautiful charcoal drawing of my Hannah done in 1893 with the signature DL Meeker. One of the children of Hannah and Charles married Frank Warner Meeker. 1. Re: Hedden-Canfield
    2. In a message dated 99-02-26 15:50:57 EST, you write: << My ancestor is Abial Hedden (1767-1841) son of Jonathan and Phebe. His wife was his first cousin, Elizabeth Hedden (1768-1848), widow of Samuel Sayre. Samuel having been killed in the Rev. War. I have never been able to answer the question as to who Elizabeth Hedden's parents were. >> Dear Bill, Phebe (Canfield) Hedden remains a mystery, but I can help you with your other problem. Last April I heard from a Bill Semeyn (kiltbill@accn.org) who is also a descendant of Abiel. He found the will of a John Low proved 27 Sep 1774, which listed his daughter Margaret Hedden and his grandson John Farrand. Elijah Hedden, brother of Jonathan, md. as his 2nd wife Margaret (Low) Farrand. She was the widow of Dr. Daniel Farrand, and dau. of John Low and his wife Sarah Provoost, born 15 Sep. 1734. He goes on to say that he thinks Betsy is Elijah and Margaret's dau. based on the fact that Betsy and her 1st husband named their first son John Low Sayre and Abiel and Betsey named one of their daughters Sarah Low Hedden. John Low's will is in "Collections of the New York Historical Society for the Year 1900", Vol. 33 - Abstracts of Wills on file at the surrogates office, City of New York, Vol. IX, Jan 7, 1777 - Feb 7, 1783, p.256-257. Since his will was proved in 1774, I don't know why it's in that volume. Maybe Bill has either the date it was proved or the date on the volume wrong. Not absolute proof but a definite possibility. 1. Questions about Newark, NJ
    2. Hi Everyone, I am planning a trip to Newark soon and I was wondering if anyone familiar with the area could answer a couple of questions for me. 1. I am visiting Fairmount Cemetery, which is the best exit & route from the Garden State Parkway? I will be coming from the north. 2. I would like to look for some obituaries also, is there a good collection of old newspapers on microfilm at the main Newark Library on Washington Street? 3. What would be the best newspaper to check for obituaries of people who died in Newark in 1850-1910 year range? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Susan J. 1. Canfield-Hedden
    2. For many years I've been looking for the parents of Phebe Canfield who md. Jonathan Hedden(1733-1795) abt 1760. Francis Bazley Lee in his "Genealogical & Memorial History of the State of New Jersey" says she is the dau. of Joseph and Phebe(Freeman) Canfield. This Joseph md. 1) Phebe Baldwin (2 children Matthias bn. 1775 and Hannah), and 2) Phebe Freeman (children Joseph, Mary, Esther, Phebe). "The History of Thomas & Matthew Canfield" says this Phebe "m. Abiel Peck ?". However Jonathan & Phebe Hedden's oldest child was born in 1761, so there is no way she could be Joseph's Phebe. Jonathan's older brother Joseph md. as his 2nd wife Sarah Canfield, dau. of Israel & Sarah (Johnson) so I hoped Phebe was her sister - but that Phebe md. Timothy Bruen and would be too old to be having children throughout the 1760's. Phebe's Hedden children are: Caleb b. 1761, Daniel, Abiel b. 1767, Jothan b. 1769, Mary(md. Joseph Peck), Rebecca (md. Matthias Baldwin), Deborah (md. Ebenezer Ransom). If anybody is a descendant of these children I would appreciate hearing from them. Joanna Curtis

    1. Hospital and/or home
    2. I'm trying to locate a hospital or home for women in the Paterson area. My aunt who was deaf was never at home. She was placed in this hospital or home at a young age. I remember visiting her with my grandmother as a very young child. All I can remember was it was in the Paterson area and for some reason I remember being told it was just for women but I could be wrong. My aunt died there in 1962 so it may or may not still be in existence. Ellen542@aol.com
