I have ancestor and descendent information re: Hugh Roberts (@1620s-1670) and his wife Mary Calkins (1629-1717) who were one of the founding families of Newark. The Roberts family was probably well off and prominent in the community for several generations. I seek other descendents and will share info. Thanks Glenn for the URL on the churches. I almost thought that church was out of existence. Does anyone know whatever happened to Trepkau Funeral Home? I know it is no longer in existence, but was it taken over by someone else? I have lots of ancestors who went through Trepkau Funeral Home ( I believe it was on Main Street) and would like to be able to get a hold of their records wherever they are. Any help will be appreciated. Susan Seifert mal316@ix.netcom.com Visit Guth Genes web site at http://members.aol.com/guthgenes/gutha.htm Lots of surnames from NY, NJ, Austria, Scotland and France.

I am wondering if this church, Bethel Presbyterian, is still in existance. A few years ago, I wrote to the Presbyterian headquarters concerning the churches my ancestors were in and they had information on some, but not on this one, which meant that Bethel Presbyterian in East Orange is still in existance. They recommended that I get in touch with them. I found the address and wrote. Never heard back. I sent an LSASE with my request. My grandfather, George Robert Guth, was christened there in 1890. Does anyone know if this church has a new name or where their records might be? Is there any way for me to get in touch with them? Thanks for any help. Hi, John Littell's book, "Genealogies of the First Settlers of the Passaic Valley", on p. 220, says that Benjamin Littell and Susan Tucker( or Tooker) of Westfield had 6 children, Moses, Isaac, John, Sarah, Susan and Mary. He says John married Phebe Thompson, 8th child of Thomas Thompson. Does anyone have information on Thomas Thompson and his family? Thanks, Lise PS I don't have a copy of the book. I just received photocopies of a few pertinent pages through interlibrary loan. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Hi, Last night I learned that my great great grandfather Robert Feldweg was buried at Woodland Cemetery in Newark, probably on May 14, 1927 (there are two of them there, father and son). I learned the gravesite was owned by Robert Feldweg, Jr. and Henry Borchert. Other burials in the plot were Robert Feldweg, buried Oct. 19, 1946 Emma Feldweg, buried June 23, 1928 Bertha Feldweg, buried Nov. 13, 1901 - her grave was reopened and they buried with her, Ruth Johnson, a child, on Aug. 31, 1907, then they moved both these graves to this family plot in 1921 Arthur F. Borchert, buried July 31, 1953 Lena Borchert, buried May 17, 1921 Henry F. Borchert, buried Sept. 23, 1942 The plot card says to contact Mr. Robert Feldweg, then his name is crossed out and it says to contact Mrs. L. Pradke. Can anyone tell me what was the relationship between these 4 families? I can only identify the Robert and Bertha Feldwegs. Who were these other people? Thank you, Lise ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Okay folks maybe made a break through today????? Does anyone of you wonderful folks have info about a Rebecca(Rachel) CHARLTON born abt. 1849 in Newark, NJ.. Siblings are Eliza and Matilda. Parents are John and Matilda. Any help with this line will be most appreciated. Thanks, Dennis F. Bird
If you have never actually read the Second River Dutch Reformed Records on microfilm you will find that although the published info in the GMNJ is ok there are some subtle differences omissions and obvious items that were missed in that enumeration. There are several copies of Second River Dutch Reformed records out there - the original Dutch records can be found on LDS film #0855163. Apparently the actual records are stored at the Holland Society of NY (I am almost sure the actual bookcopy of the records would not be available for use - they probably have the same microfilmed copy.) There is another copy on film 0855163 which seems to be a transcription as the non-register pages are in English and not Dutch. My BARNETTs start with David BARNETT and sons, John and William, living in Newark, NJ in the early 1820s. William went to MA and married Nancy Wheeler in 1826 in Medway. Daughter Matilda was born 1833, and William in 1837, both in MA. By 1840, the family was back in NJ. in Rahway, with a 3rd child, George AC, born there in 1839. Matilda returned to Boston and never married. William and George served together in the Civil War in Hawkin's Zouaves. William was killed in action, but George survived and had a long life as an attorney in New York City. He died in 1914, and was my great-grandfather. Also seeking another relative, Oliver Barnett, who lived in NY and NJ around 1890-1910. Anyone connect? Any suggestions? Please reply to rpfamily@concentric.net. Thanks. IN the ceneter of present day Hunterdon there is even a village called Quakertown with the old fieldstone meeting house with two entrances, one for men the other for women.
