Hello EC Researchers, I'd like to inform everyone how to access the TWO archives for the Essex County mailing list. The first archives is the one that has been in use for quite some time. Go to the following URL and type in "NJESSEX". <http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl> This will bring you to the page where you can select the year you want searched and input your query words. Years available are 1996, 1997, 1998, & 1999. The second archive is the newest one, the threaded archives. Go to the following URL and click on "NJESSEX-L". <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/archives-bin/list> If you haven't visited the site before you will be asked to create a username and a password. Once you do this you will be able to access the archives. Once there you can follow the directions to find what you want. The threaded archives were created last month so it only starts with April of 1999. There is the possibility that these archives will be retro fitted with posts previous to April, 1999 but nothing is firm yet. Since this is a new system please be patient with it. I'd like to stress two things. First, as it has always been, a message CANNOT be removed from the archives. Once you post it, it is there for eternity. Secondly, and I can not stress this more, is to CHANGE the SUBJECT LINE when you CHANGE the SUBJECT! Do not just hit reply, leave the subject line and post a new message and do not leave the subject line blank. If you are using the digest mode, PLEASE make sure you have a meaningful subject line when you reply and not leave the digest subject line. For the sake of continuity of the new threaded archives I will be sending everyone who doesn't change the subject line a friendly reminder via their personal email. Lastly and most important, if you have any questions please send them to me via my personal email address and not to the mailing list. Thank You, Glenn G. Geisheimer, Iselin, New Jersey: glenng@castle.net Co-Administator for the Baden-Wurttemberg Mailing List
I am planning a trip to New Jersey in June. My GGGrandparents from there, Austin Van Ness and Caroline R. Jacobus were born about 1830 or 1831. I found them on the 1850 census in Caldwell Township. The LDS have a marriage record for Austin and a Catharine R. Jacobus, for which I am currently awaiting the microfilm. I suspect they were married at Caldwell Presbyterian, but I won't be sure until I find the record. I was planning on spending one day at the archives in Trenton and one day in Essex Co. Does anyone have suggestions as to the most likely place(s) to find information on Austin Van Ness in Essex Co. I understand there is a good library in Cedar Grove, but I lack a knowledge of the geography to even know if that is in the Caldwell Twnshp area. HELP! Thank you, Thomas E. Hi, Another question---I have found St.Peters RC Church microfilm numbers but there is none for records of death listed. Did they keep records for deaths in their congregation? If so, where might I find a record for someone born 1888 and died somtime before the 1900 census? Thanks,Pat _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com

Hi, I am at a dead end on a relative. Her name was Mary (Marie) Schandel. She was born c.1882 in Germany(?) and died in c.1915, from childbirth complications, in Newark NJ. Her parents were Paul Schandel and Johanna Schwartz. I believe she had a brother Steven. She married my grandfather, John Joseph Treier in July 11, 1905 in St. Benedict's Church in Newark NJ. I have not been able to find a death certificate on her and I have no idea where she was buried. If anyone is related to the Schandels and is researching, please contact me. I would love to tie up this loose end. Pat from Idaho _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com
Hi all! Does anybody know anything about the Kearny Public Schools or if any information is available from them? I just found my Dad's diploma for "Junior Grades of the Lincoln School" dated 13 June, 1934. It says "Kearny Public Schools, Kearny, NJ" at the top and is signed by "Wm. E. ROSS, Principal" and Edmund L. _ink (could be "FINK"), Superintendant of Schools. Thanks for any info. Sincerely, Liz France Searching JACOB in Hudson and Essex Counties, NJ.
Arlene: I would appreciate lookups in the Rahway Cemetery for the following Lamberts: John d. @1737; Roger (Rodger) d 1716; Eleanor (Elinor) no death date (early 1700s); Mary (mid 1700s). Thank you for the offer. Cordially, Don Lambert, Colorado
I will be making a trip to Westfield NJ and plan to go to the Library. I know several of you were trying to find burials in Rahway Cemetery as I was, and not having much luck. I will be looking up the booklet that contains the listing of most of the burials in Rahway Cemetery. I would be glad to do lookups for anyone as time permits. Send me all the information you have and I'll do the best I can. Arlene Dunkum

Hi Listers!! Was hoping someone that lives in Newark, would be kind enough to takes some pictures of my Ancestor's gravestones in their burial plot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetary. I have not been able to locate birth records on several of my ggrandparents from NJ Vitals or in Trenton. DAR Nat'l will accept a photo of gravestones as a form of proof of birth year. The burial plot is located under: Francis L. ILSLEY Lot Section P, Lot #71. There are 3x Grandparents there, along with my GGUncle and Aunt. I will certainly pay you for any expenses you might have for your time, film, etc... Please contact me if anyone is going there in the near future... I would really appreciate your help.
