    1. Sachs / Lovelace / Mitchel
    2. I'm still trying to find info on David Sachs who was 23 and a clerk in October 1904. David had daughter born "out of wedlock" in Newark NJ and info on him came from that birth certificate. Daughters name was Helen Sachs. Mother was Bessie Lovelace 17 housekeeper. Bessie also studied opera in NY so he may have been from across the river. David may have died before 1907 when Elizabeth Lovelace married Arthur Mitchel. Helen didn't know that the man she called dad wasnt her father until after she was grown. Arthur Mitchel and Elizabeth Lovelace married in Newark NJ 1907. He raced motorcycles and they lived in Chicago, Los Angeles and Houston before coming to Birmingham. Bessie died when Helen was eleven in Birmingham Alabama due to problems in childbirth. Any help on this family would be appreciated- Thanks Doris Mayer Reece

    1. More on 1st Dutch Reformed Church Records
    2. kevin and rika
    3. I have received several inqueries about my recent posting on records I received from the Lutheran Church regarding records from what at one point was the 1st Dutch Reformed Church on 177 Washington St. Happy to be giving instead of asking for a change , here goes . Where to find : go to Glenn's Virtual Newark site . Click on Churches , etc. Click on Carol Swineharts' Church Archives . Click on NJ and scroll down to Lutheran . I e-mailed the Philadelphia branch listed . They took about 2 months , sent me the info and asked me to send $20. (I did) . What they sent : I knew the names and date of the wedding I wanted , plus the minister and Church . They sent a copy of the Parish record with 6 weddings on it . It is in Hungarian . It has seperate columns for groom and bride and witnesses . It has name , dob , town/village and county (in Hungary) , current address , and parents names . One other fact I can't guess at (occupation?). It came 1st class unfolded in a large envelope . Whoever wrote this (Rev. Shambach?) has beautiful handwriting but the strangest letter formations I have seen which makes attempting to figure out the letters quite hard . Good Luck , Kevin

FYI I e-mailed the Lutheran Church at lutthelib@ltsp.edu on March 12 and today received a copy of the Parish record . They asked $20 for their research . I hope this helps other people who may need this information . Kevin

    1. ROBERTS Surname
    2. Dear Essex Cty. NJ listers: I'm looking for children of the late Arthur J. ROBERTS (born 1885) and Therese Marie (FLYNN) ROBERTS LEVIS, born 1893 (Scranton, PA). The family lived in Jersey City in the 1920's until at least 1936. In fact in 1936 they lived at 70 Baldwin Ave., Jersey City. Arthur J. ROBERTS, the father died in September 1936. I know they had children but how many or sex, I don't know. The mother, Theresa Marie (FLYNN) ROBERTS remarried a man named John LEVIS and in 1964, in her sister's obituary, she was living with him in Brooklyn, NY. I would like to contact the descendants of Arthur J. ROBERTS and Theresa Marie (FLYNN) ROBERTS to complete family history. Thank you to all for reading this. Mary L. Casey, Metro Detroit, MI area.

    3. Pat, I would go ahead and write directly to St Peter's. They actually have a cemetery right on the church grounds and the child may have been buried there. I've both visited and written to the church -- they've been very responsive to date. Happy Hunting! Joe SHAW Dundalk, MD

    2. Thomas: You may want to look into the Special Collections and Archives at the Rutgers University Libraries in New Brunswick, New Jersey 08903. Phone 908/932-7006. Last year while researching my Mercy Jacobus from the 1830 era, I was put in contact with an Edward Skipworth at the above library. He informed me that they had records of the Caldwell Presbyterian Church covering the years from 1784 to 1836. A list of members is included. Also at the same location is a collection of records from a previous genealogist in which you may find some information. It is called "The Charles Carroll Gardner Collection". They are apparently on 4x5" cards. I'm sure Ed Skipworth will be willing to help you with what you are looking for. Also there is the New Jersey State Archives located in the Newark area. I know they just moved and reopened, but their new address escapes me right now. I'm sure you can find it on the internet with one of the search engines. If you need more help, advise. Willard E. Wheaton Jr. A descendant of Squire Wheaton and Mercy Jacobus, married in the Caldwell Presbyterian Church, Essex Co. NJ June 24, 1815. and looking for information on Squires parents presumed to be William Wheaton and a Martha ?.
