    1. Sachs 23 years old in 1904
    2. I am still looking for information on David SACHS listed as 23 years old, clerk in October 1904 as the father on Helen Sachs birth certificate. Bessie Lovelace was 17 and housekeeper when she had Helen. Bessie married Arthur Joseph Mitchel in 1907. Family legend says David was trampled by carriage horses. or a beer wagon. or both depending on who tells the story. Helen was born in Newark but I have not been able to find anything on David. it is also possible he was from NY. ANY help would be appreciated Thanks Doris in Alabama

In the 1870 Newark directory he was the only Feldweg. The 1870 census does not show addresses. Thank you, Connie I wrote to the following address: Essex County Records 465 Martin Luther King Blvd Newark NJ 07102 As I understand it, they have the naturalization records for Essex County from 1840 to 1930. I asked for records on my g.g.grandfather, Theodor Sonnekalb, & gave them a range of years from 1850 to 1870. I also asked for copies of Frederick Sonnekalb's papers (Theodor's possible father) & ANY OTHER SONNEKALBS. In return, within a matter of weeks, I received a listing of all Sonnekalb filings, which ranged in dates from 1851 to 1886. I was then able to send for papers on my g.g.grandfather, his possible father, & three of his possible brothers. Although the information contained in the papers was scarce, I was still most pleased. 2. In response to the following: <Hi, Can anyone tell me who to contact in Essex Cnty to get copies of Declaration of Intent and Naturalization Papers from the late 1840s, early 1850s? Thank you, Connie> You have a few choices but need to know where both were filed - they were not always in the same place due to the length of time required for them. An individual could even file his intent in one state and receive his final papers in another. Try the following if you feel the naturalization was filed in Essex County - www.essexclerk.com/vault.html You could also try your local LDS - they have an index film which may lead you to your ancestor. Many of the papers which were filmed were filmed with all the pertaining documents (both intent and naturalization). Hope this helps, Barbara

    2. Mike Brearey
    3. Dear List, I have received some wonderful replies from this list and from Yorksgen-l and have one more question. Who would I contact in Essex County to find historical evidence of Freemason's Lodges during the 1860's and 1870's? I have a picture of my GGGrandfather in his Freemasonry regalia and would be happy to send a copy via e-mail to anyone who might be able to decipher which lodge he belonged to. The problem is that the lodge could equally be in Yorkshire as he was a member of Heckmonwike Lodge as well. 1. Breareys and Lagging in Essex County
    2. Mike Brearey
    3. Dear List, My GGGrandfather made pipe lagging for steam pipes in UK woollen mills. This lagging rejoiced in the Yorkshire nickname of "monkey muck", but that's as much as I know. Does anyone know from what it would be made (I suspect shoddy) and would such a product have had anything to do with his mysterious visit to Essex County, NJ in the 1860s? So far, the old Freemason has kept the reason for his trip very close to his chest and his death over seventy five years ago has hampered my research somewhat. Now, this child must have a grave and the chances are that it had a headstone as the old man was wealthy and wouldn't have settled for a marker. The questions are these: Why was he in Bloomfield NJ? Why did he come back? Where is his son buried? Why was the whole episode a secret? Why are there no extant records? What was Bloomfield's industry in the 1860s/1870s? Would it have anything at all to do with machines that needed steam pipes or the woollen industry? I have been told he is not on the FTM list, so wonder if anyone has records of BDM in NJ during that time. I have no experience at all of US history and do not know where to start. Best regards and thanks in advance.
