    1. CORBY-NAFIE
    2. Hi, Glad to see others with CORBY information. According to the NEVIUS genealogy by Honeyman, my Matilda CORBY was born 1790 (where?) and married John NAFIE, born 1786. The marriage took place in Caldwell, NJ in 1806, no place given. Does anyone know if the Presby. Church recordsof Caldwell mentioned by Bev Crifasi still exist? John & Matilda (CORBY) NAFIE had 1 son & 8 daughters b. between 1808-1827. My Maria NAFIE, b. 1811 Orange, Essex Co., was their daughter but I need another source of this & proof other than Honeyman's book. Also would like to know who Matilda CORBY's parents were. Any information greatly appreciated. Elaine Mason Lancaster Co., PA

Hi- I have been working on a database of Caldwell families, so I have a little on the CORBY family. A name like Yehoncris is a great help among all the John, William, Joseph etc. of that time period! Descendants of Gideon Corby I. Gideon1 CORBY married Martha "Patty" RIKER. [Note- RIKER is a well researched family, but I have postponed entering the information I found online and at the library - I haven't, therefore, linked her with the other RIKERs, but I think it would not be that difficult.] A. Peter2 CORBY was also known as Pater CORBY. He married Mary WILLIAMS, daughter of Zadock WILLIAMS and Rachel KENT, on 24 Dec 1799 at First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, Caldwell, Essex County, NJ. He married Catherine STEVENS on 8 Jul 1833 at First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, Caldwell, Essex County, NJ. B. Encreas2 CORBY married Abigail KENT, daughter of Jacob KENT and Keziah DODD, on 20 Jul 1802 at First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, Caldwell, Essex County, NJ. [Note- The only other times I have found "Encreas" is in the GOULD family. The name was usually spelled "Encrease" and was derived from "Increase". It arrived in Caldwell, NJ with a descendant of Increase ROBINSON of MA.] C. Yehoneris2 CORBY was born circa 1781 at Newark, Essex County, NJ. He married Abigail WILLIAMS, daughter of Zadock WILLIAMS and Rachel KENT, on 20 Jul 1801 at First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, Caldwell, Essex County, NJ. He died on 30 Jan 1860 at Caldwell, Essex County, NJ. 1. Zadoc3 CORBY was born on 13 Apr 1802 at Caldwell, Essex County, NJ. He died on 14 Mar 1860 at Caldwell, Essex County, NJ, at age 57. a) Theodore C.4 CORBY was born in 1829 at Caldwell, Essex County, NJ [This one I just added from your message- I'd love to know more on this line.] 2. Rachel3 CORBY was born on 3 Sep 1803. 3. Phebe3 CORBY was born on 16 Sep 1807 at Caldwell, Essex County, NJ. She died on 22 Mar 1850 at Bloomfield, Essex County, NJ, at age 42. 4. Lucinda3 CORBY was born on 2 Nov 1811 at Caldwell, Essex County, NJ. She married Ellis Freeman CONDIT, son of Hiram CONDIT and Rhoda CORBY, on 1 Jul 1830. She died on 17 Dec 1881 at age 70. a) Zadoc4 CONDIT married Sarah Jane MAGER, daughter of James MCGIRR and Catherine MACKENZIE. He died on 20 Jul 1924. (1) Son5 CONDIT was born after 1879. He died circa 1880. e) 5 more children4 CONDIT 5. Abigail Theresa3 CORBY was born on 23 Aug 1814 at Caldwell, Essex County, NJ. She died on 26 Feb 1896 at North Bend, Dodge County, NE, at age 81. This information is from a varieth of sources, including the Williams Genealogy by Lyle K. Williams, "A Puritan Heritage" by Lynn G. Lockward (a history of the Presb. Church at Caldwell), the Condit Genealogy and local newspaper sources in Caldwell. I would appreciate any information on this family. I have some other CORBYs in the database, but not linked like this and not the names you mentioned. I'd be happy to send them if you like. I realize I haven't addressed your specific questions regarding links with Abijah, Uzal and Theodore, but maybe if we can add more names it will come together. I have a lot of Uzals- it seems to have been popular in the HARRISON and DODD families- when they weren't naming people William Henry Harrison (probably their favorite name) and such. Another closely allied family is KENT. As you can see, there were several KENT/CORBY/WILLIAMS alliances. KENT is also on my "todo" list, but not because there is a lot of information easily available. So far they seem to have been ignored in the Caldwell area. I have not noticed the more interesting names among them- they are big on Rachel and Jacob, but not Abijah. Have you contacted the Bloomfield Historical Society? I don't know if they handle queries, but they might. They are located in the Bloomfield Public Library (for the moment- they are going to move.) There is also an old cemetery in Bloomfield where a lot of the Presbyterians were buried, but perhaps you know of it- let me know if you need information on it. Regards- Bev

If they are not doing it yet, they will be doing it shortly. In the meantime no records are available. If that is a disappointment to you in your ancestor search, just think of those recent immigrants who are having Naturalization problems as we speak. Glenn G. Geisheimer glenng@castle.net

After a few months I received a letter from the Newark INS Office telling me that they were unable to search for the papers, as the Newark facility was having asbestos removed from their location(s). They suggested that I try for the information I need somewhere else. Well, I have no place else to go for that information. Believe me, I've tried!!!!!! Here's what I need: ZUNK, Harry: b: 3/15/1885, Arudlo/Horodlo, Poland m: ? , Hrubieszow, Poland Arrived USA: 1/13/1913 at Port of NYC, with wife and infant son Naturalized: 2/10/1930, at Newark, NJ (cert. #3179128) ZUNK, Ida: b: 4/10/1889, Hrubieszow, Poland (nee: TROST) m: ? , Hrubieszow, Poland Arrived USA: 1/13/1930 at Port of NYC, with husband and infant son Naturalized: 3/9/1942, at Newark, NJ (cert. # unknown to me) Is there ANYONE out there who has access to the Newark INS files? Can anyone give me a helping hand with this. I don't know what to do, since INS doesn't seem to even want to answer any of my letters. Thank you in advance.
