    3. Hello Listers: I was wondering if any of you have access to any of the old newspapers that might be on file at the local libraries. I am looking for an obituary on my grandfather and I would like to humbly ask if any one would be willing to look in one of the local newspapers such as the Star Ledger to see if an obituary appeared in it? His name is Amando DETROLIO, husband of Theresa ZUPPA (DETROLIO) and he died in his home in Bloomfield on February 25, 1984 of a heart attack. Thanks, Pamela R. DeTrolio Inverness Florida

    3. As far as obits are concerned. The NJ State Archives in Trenton has alot of papers on microfilm you can contact them concerning which ones you need searched. The Paterson Public Library has the old Paterson Eve. News , stopped publishing in 1969, on microfilm and for a small fee they will search for the obit if you have the date of death. 1. Need suggestions for name - Hurts
    2. Carol Swinehart
    3. My grandmother left me some genealogical information on the family stating that her grandmother was Margaret Hurts. Margaret and her husband, Joseph C. Hoff apparently married in the early 1800's in Hunterdon Co, NJ. I have never been able to find a "Hurts" family in that area so I believe the name was spelled differently. The obvious to me would be the German spelling Hertz/Haertz but is there a Dutch name that would be similar. Joseph C. Hoff and his wife, Margaret Hurts lived in Newark circa 1875. I am open to any and all suggestions. Right now I am stuck. Thanks for your help. Carol Swinehart cshart@greenapple.com

    1. BIRTH RECORDS
    2. constance britton
    3. Does anyone know if Essex County keeps birth records from 1856?? I contacted the N. J. Archives, requesting a birth record for my Great grandfather, giving them the exact date of birth that appeared on his death certificate. They searched for the period 1848-1878 and came up empty. The reason I would like his birth cert. is because his mothers maiden name on the death cert. is not clearly written. Thank you, Connie =^..^=

What happened? > > Surname: KIPLE > Sharlene Sharlene: Essex was one of the original (1675) four counties, and covered most of the northern part of the state. Hunterdon was formed in 1714, and adjoined Essex at that time. Over the years, new counties were formed that separated the two. Today, Amwell Lake is in Hunterdon, but the "locale" called Amwell is on the border between Hunterdon and Somerset Counties. My map shows it in Somerset, but the GNIS shows it in Hunterdon. Both 1833 and 1853 Gazeteers show Amwell as being in Hunterdon. As far as I can determine, that location was NOT in Essex County in 1790, nor do I find any alternative Amwells that might have been. All I can suggest is that the census data reflects something other than the formal county boundaries (e.g., where the census taker(s) were located). Gary Vincent A RootsWeb Sponsor

    1. Virtual Newark
    2. Hi, I haven't been into Virtual Newark for a while but I am always amazed at the amount of information there. I went in tonight to get information for someone else when I saw the list for the 1920 Police Dept. I went through it and sure enough, I found my husband's gfather in the Second Precinct. It was mentioned in his obituary but it was reassuring to see it there. Again Glenn, thanks for a wonderful job. Rita
