>Apparantly they were nice to the Newark folks. What did they do with my >ancestors at the 1st Pres. Ch. Are they under the garage? Hello, I wish I knew of the monument that Joan spoke of yesterday. I had a quick "photo session" at the church. I couldn't remember where the cemetery was, either on the side or in the back. So instead of taking the photo there at the site of the old cemetery, it was taken in the front of the church. (We all have memory lapses from time to time). For those of you wishing to see the face behind my email messages, the photo and a story is scheduled to appear in the Newark edition of the Star Ledger next Thursday, the 16th. Of course it could always be bumped to another Thursday. (The last time I was interviewed by the SL, the story appeared 5 months later). ------------ Glenn G. Hello, Information on the First Pres. can be found at: <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~geishome/churches/denoms/presbyterian/firstp res.htm> There probably is a more detailed listing of the LDS FHC contents for the church on line. My great Grandmother, Elizabeth Wilcox apparently attended there at 1st Pres. When she died in Troy, NY she was buried there but the record of her was requested to be placed on her brother's grave plaque/stone. This leads me to believe that since she attended there and was married there in the early 1800's that her husband, Cornelius L. Fountain and his parents also attended there. In actuality, I am searching for Cornelius and his parents and am hopeful that I can find them by the way of Elizabeth Wilcox. Is there are history of the church? a membership list of the late 1700's and early 1800's ? and possible Minutes of the Session from that circe that are available on-line? If not, is there an historian of the church with whom I might be able to consult? Thanks for any information, Peggy Fountain Taylor

There is a possibility that my ggg grandmother was buried in the 1st Presby. cemetery and I would love to find her. Her name at the time of her death was Matilda Mattax (or any spelling variation thereof) and she was married to Absolom Mattax. She died on 4 Oct 1858. Her maiden name was Matilda Mills Breese and the name of her first husand was Amos Straw. There is a record of her membership at the Newark Presbyterian Church, so just maybe she was buried there? Finding those lists might be very helpful, Judy Martin commjet@aol.com

That is interesting. In 1993 I was there, map in hand looking for my ancestors' graves. The cemetery did not resemble the map at all and I thought that the graves should be about where the parking garage was. Did they make any list when they moved them. I am familiar with the book that lists graves for the Elizabeth graveyard, but of course, am hoping there is another list with more names. Sheri ----- Original Message ----- From: Glenn G.
