    1. [NJESSEX] PROJECT-INDEX NYC CATHOLIC PARISH REGISTERS
    2. jaws
    3. FYI A notice was posted in the Summer, 1999 New York Genealogical and Biographical Society Newsletter: A proposal by Rosemary Ardolina to members of the Irish Family History Forum, was published in the May/June IFHF newsletter. The goal is to index the registers of all Roman Catholic parishes in the New York City area so that genealogists will be able to obtain information. Many volunteers are needed, both on-site and via home computers. For further information contact Rosemary Ardolina at, email: RoArd29@aol.com I contacted Rosemary (best time to reach her is between 11PM-1AM) to offer my services from my home computer. The immediate need would be for someone to make photocopies of the actual registers which entails physically visiting the rectory after making arrangements with the pastor. If you are able and willing to take part in this extremely important project, please contact Rosemary at RoArd29@aol.com Sincerely, Janet White

    1. [NJESSEX] St. Michael's Hospital in Newark
    2. Mona: You can try the NJ Archives in Trenton (rather than Vital Stastics) as they have death records up to 1914 and they will not blank it out. I don't have their phone # or address handy, but it should be easy enough to get. It may cost a bit more for a search through the archives, but you will at least know the cause of death. Gail in Chicago ============================================================ Just today I received (from Trenton) the death certificate of the sister of my dad's mother. She died in St. Michael's Hospital, Newark in 1910 after a 25 day stay. Of course, the cause of death is blanked out and I surely would love to have that information. I checked out the Newark site and learned that St. Michael's hospital is still active and the address of 304-306 High St. was given. I want to write to the hospital and try to learn if they still have records dating back to 1910. I need the zip code for that address. Can someone supply it for me? Also, if anyone has access to death records, could someone tell me her cause of death? Bertha LECKIE died 24 June 1910 in St. Michael's Hospital, Newark.

In the 60's, however, the category 5 was used for those older than the current age range. The "F" meant physically or mentally unqualified. 1. Re: [NJESSEX]Naturalization papers
    2. hobnail
    3. Hi Estelle, You first need to find the year of naturalization. If he were naturalized before 1920, the year could be found on the 1920 census. When you obtain your grandfather's petition for naturalization, you will find some pertinent information on your grandmother-such as the village in which she was born. Yes, it is true that she and any children would also become citizens at the time you grandfather was naturalized. It is also interesting that if an American woman married a non-citizen, she lost her citizenship. Good luck in your search. Janice Danks > Hello List: > > I need some advice on how I start finding Naturalization papers or > declaration of Intent, manifests etc. Not too familiar with the research > part > of this, I would like some advice on how one starts this research. > > My grandfather Frank ZELEVITCH came over Fr Poland (as stated on 1910 > census) > 1906. 1. [NJESSEX] Citizenship
    2. My mother married my father in 1921 and at that time a woman became a citizen if she married one. The law was changed in the late 1920's and then a wife had to go through the naturalization process Ruth

    1. Re: [NJESSEX] Elias HATFIELD
    2. I have been attempting to track my father's ancestors for a number of years. My ggggrandfather was Elias HATFIELD, b. 11 Mar. 1760 in Woodbridge, Essex Co., NJ. This is as far as I can get on him. He married Anna LINDSAY on 10 Apr. 1789 in NJ. She was born 1 Feb 1767 in Essex Co. They seemed to have gone to the Philadelphia area for a few years, then finally settled in Fayette Co.....western PA where they raised a family: Timothy, Margaret, Fanny, Sarah Ann, Elizabeth, Christian, Anna, James Lindsay, Samuel and my gggrandmother, Mahala. Would anyone have a connection or knowledge about any of these? Happy Familying Laura Irby in VA
