    1. [NJESSEX] Firemen Records Newark - 1933
    2. Hi: Looking for records on my Uncle Joseph ZELEVITCH. On his marriage certificate his occupation is Fireman. Does anyone know how many Firehouses there were in Newark around that time (1933) and who I can write to? Has anyone written for these records before. If you have, what info could I get? Thanks :) Estelle

    1. [NJESSEX] Caldwell Penetentiary
    2. Hello List: Has anyone heard of "Caldwell Penitentiary"? On my uncles marriage certificate one of his witnesses signed his name and next to it said Caldwell Penitentiary. Seemed kind of strange to see where from and this was listed. I discovered also from my mom that my uncle was unfortunately in there as well. Question is would this be public information? Can someone get copies of records and would they still have them for the years 1925-1935? Thanks again! Estelle

    2. Hello List: Would anyone know what schools were in operation for the years 1920-1925. I would like to locate High School yearbooks on my ancestors for that time period. If the schools are no longer there, who would get the schools information and yearbooks? Thanks in advance :) Estelle Boca Raton, FL.

    1. [NJESSEX] Newark Directory Lookups
    2. Greetings!! Does anyone know if there are 1910 (+ or -) directories for Newark? I need an address for Ernst (Ernest?) Hartmann and wife, Anna for around 1910, and then instructions on how to learn what enumeration district their address is in. I have looked up the two addresses I have for them in 1900 and 1920 censuses (sp?) with no success. I hope someone can help! Thanks in advance! LES-H

    1. [NJESSEX] obit lookups
    2. Greetings from Texas! I'm wondering if someone would perhaps be able to do an obituary lookup for me in the Newark News. I have funeral records that state obits were placed in the Newark News for the following individuals. Letitia Robshaw died May 3, 1930 George Robshaw died April 21, 1948 Annie Robshaw died August 28, 1929 I'd like to get copies of the actual obituaries if possible, so if someone has an address that I can write to for them, even that would be of great assistance. Thanks a bunch in advance!! LES-H

With the name of the hotel, I hope to search the newspapers in that area for photographs of Margaret Savage Schott, my grandmother. Thanks. 3. Judith, There is a St. John's Cemetery in Orange, NJ. It takes up most of the block between High, Park, White, and Chapel Streets. Also on that block is St. John's School. St. John's church is across the street. Can't find the phone number right now, but they should be in the book. I believe they do have a section that is referred to as the old cemetery. There is a card file and they will let you know what limited information they do have. I have relatives buried there. 1. [NJESSEX] St. John's Cemetery Catholic Cemetery
    2. Does anyone have any knowledge of a St. John's Cemetery? Family history stated two cemeteries, one called Old St. John's and another one called St. John's Cemetery. One might have been partially in Newark and partially in Orange. The graves could have been moved to the Catholic Cemetery in North Arlington. I found on the Newark page under cemeteries that a St. John's was moved to North Arlington. Over the years I have written numerous letters and have never had a response. The records that LDS has copied of this church started in 1850. The Murtha's and the Dodd's were buried there 1878-1905 and I would like to find out who has the records or if there is still a cemetery in Essex County called St. John's. Thank you. 1. [NJESSEX] GRINLINTON, Capitola/1867-1935
    2. Malachi 3:16
    3. I am looking for information on my ancestor, Capitola (or Georgianna) GRINLINTON, who was married to George W. GUTH. I can't seem to find any more info on her, and what I have is conflicting. Capitola was either born in Illinois or NY, and was the daughter of Robert GRINLINTON. I was able to locate a GRINLINTON in a late 1800 census of Essex County, but I don't know if there is any connection. Capitola and George had a son born in 1890, supposedly in Brooklyn. He was christened at Bethel Presbyterian Church a few months later (not sure why they would make a trip from Brooklyn to Orange or E. Orange with a baby then). George worked on the railroad and they lived on Park Ave. in E. Orange many years later. They are both buried in Pleasantdale Cemetery. Any other information on this family is greatly appreciated. I have her death certificate and found her on some census records, but the places of origin are conflicting. I would love to hear from others who might be researching this rare name.
