    1. [NJESSEX] Declaration of Intention Question
    2. Sally Schilling
    3. Maybe you folks can help me with this… My grandfather never got his citizenship. From what my late father told me, it was because my grandfather could not remember the name of this ship that he traveled on to come to the US… Does this make any sense? I vaguely remember that years ago folks who were not US citizens had to go to the Post Office and submit some kind of form, which I was suppose was a way for the Federal Government to keep track of where “aliens” lived… I am sure my grandfather had to do this… My grandfather arrived in the US in1907. I believe he may have worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania, but then moved to Newark, NJ where my dad was born in 1912. Then they moved to NYC, then sometime after 1930 they moved to Long Island, and in 1948 they lived in Uniondale/Hempstead, and then North Bellmore (after 1951). So I know basically where and when my grandfather lived... Now the next question: My grandmother arrived in the US 1906, she was not married at the time. Apparently, she met my grandfather and got married, and yadda yadda yadda… My grandmother died (1947) long before I was born. I have been unable to find her on any passenger lists because no one seems to know the spelling of her last name… I have no idea if she filed a Declaration of Intention… Anybody have any ideas about how to go about searching for her last name? I do have a copy of her death certificate, but it doesn’t include her maiden name. It does however have her last known address and her social security number… Oh, I do know that her middle name was Iovanna (this is written in Russian on my father’s baptismal certificate, but they didn’t write her maiden name down. Darn it!) If anyone can give me some idea where to start on this journey, I would be most grateful. All best wishes SallyEllen R. 1. [NJESSEX] Winn, Donnelly, Williams, & Dardis families' mystery of NJ, NY, & Ireland
    2. Donnelly
    3. Hi, I hope someone can help me with my mystery of the Winn, Donnelly, Williams, and Dardis families. I am trying to find out more about Honora ("Nora") Winn (about 1827-about 1880) who was born in Ireland and lived in the Essex County area of New Jersey. She was first married (or had a relationship with) Michael Donnelly (about 1822-1850), and they had a son, Thomas John Donnelly, born in 1849, and christened at Saint John Roman Catholic Church in Newark, NJ. After Michael's death, Thomas went to live with John and Mary Dardis in Madison County, NY. On August 16, 1852 at Saint John Roman Catholic Church in Newark, NJ, Nora married Elisha Williams (about 1820-before 1880) in New Jersey, and they had a son, Terrance Williams, born in 1854. My husband is a descendent of Thomas John Donnelly. I would like to know more about this family and especially more about Nora Winn. Her son Thomas was told his mother disappeared. Does anyone know more about Nora Winn, Michael Donnelly, or Elisha Williams? Were Nora and Thomas married, and if so, where and when? Does anyone have photos of any of them? Does anyone know where any of them are buried? Where in Ireland did Nora come from? Where in Ireland did Michael come from? Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have more information and other photos on my family genealogy page at: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/o/n/Sharlotte--N-Donnelly. I can be reached at [email protected] Thanks, Sharlotte Donnelly
