Who is Henby Creek named after? Technically, the answer is no one. When the waterway, which starts at Helms Cove, was named years ago, it was supposed to be in honor of William Hanby, a man who bought hundreds of acres in Upper Penns Neck from William Penn. Somehow, the spelling error went unnoticed, but officials are now learning that it's never too late to fix a mistake. There are no signs to mark it, so many residents might be unaware that the narrow, 1.4 mile stream running under the railroad, Route 130 and past Salem Community College is known as Henby Creek.
