Since early documentation shows this specific Garrison male line to be of European descent YDNA will not prove Native American ancestry unless there has been a FPE (false paternal event) such as an adoption or an out of wedlock birth by a Native American male who came into the Garrison male line & assumed the Garrison name. If there is Native American blood in the Garrison family & it didn't involve a FPE then it came into the family through a female & is found in mtDNA not YDNA. There are other Garrisons in the USA, some but not all relate to our common ancestor in America Gerrit Jansen Van Oldenburg. According to IDENTIGENE DNA, a site that markets Native American DNA testing, certain DNA markers can show which ones are relatively unique to a specific population & predict inheritance percenta! ges. These markers as reported by this group have the ability to differentiate between major geographic regions such as Native Americans in North & South America. Possibly as the field of genetic genealogy progresses & more DNA testing is done on the Garrisons of Cumberland Co & their related families, we will reach a scientific conclusion for the question, does the Garrisons of Cumberland Co have or don't have Native American ancestry?
