I have seen this book before and it is a very good resource with documentation as to which Indians were in NJ and when and which were not. It is better documented than the website I previously provided the link for. While there are plenty of people with NJ ancestors who they can claim (and sometimes document) were Native Americans, unless there were very unusual circumstances the NA ancestry can be tied to some branch of the Delaware Indians (including the Nanticoke and Lenni-Lenape). When people start claiming family stories (lore) about Indian "Princesses" or Cherokees or Souix or Choctaw, etc. intermarrying with their ancestors in NJ and stating that they "claimed" to be White because of fear of persecution--that usually sends up a red flag that it is probably myth that cannot be proven and the facts often fly in the face of history. I've researched many of these cases and the person claiming the long-standing story of Indian heritage ALWAYS is absolutely certain they have Indian blood--I researched one case where I was able to conclusively prove that BOTH great-grandparents on the supposedly Indian side were born in Germany and the supposedly Indian surname was a translation of their German name. This and other similar cases have installed a skepticism in me and that is the reason for my "show me the evidence" attitude. Granted, not all cases of legitimate Indian ancestry can be "proven" but they have to be able to stand the test of POSSIBILITY and PLAUSIBILITY.
