Hi, I just subbed to this list, so don't know if it is active or what. I just found out that my immigrant ancestor spent some time in Cumberland County, NJ, in the early 1840s before moving to Baltimore. He was a Welsh coppersmelter. Can someone tell me what he would have been doing in Cumberland County back then? Was there a copper smelter? If so, where was it and what was it called? If there was no copper smelter, was there other copper-related business? He was not a miner--he might have worked as an agent for a copper works. Thanks for any info! Mona
