I live in Oklahoma and my family still lives in Arkansas. I've been to Washington, AR, where the Confederate Capitol was, several times. In my papers I have an article written about Harris (governor). It is from the "Arkansas Historical Quarterly". My grandmother, of course, remembered her grandfather. She told us stories about him. When he went to Little Rock to surrender the official government papers he went alone on horseback because he wasn't sure that they would really let him come back home and he didn't want anyone else to be in danger. Gram told about her grandmother waiting each day on the front porch of their home (which burned and most of the furnishings were lost) waiting for him. Even though I have the names and most of the dates for his ancestors, I don't have any of the stories that make them human. What they did for a living, where they lived, if they were prosperous, those kind of things. I appreciate any information you can share. Laura [email protected]
