Trewax was also misspelled Treewax. Pronounced TROO-AKS and originating from Philip de Trieux, a French nobleman who at one time owned most of what is now Manhattan. Some of the children were: Ella-"Ellie"(married Francis Gifford-one son Chester-still living), Frances-"Fanny", Bloomfield, Leon(?), Tillie Comilla-b.1891. Fannie was my grandmother's mother--she was married to Thomas(?) Pettit and died when my grandmother Ella Frances(b. 1911) was 5. My grandmother was raised by her aunt Tillie, who was married to Richard Hahn (or Hann). At age 16 my grandmother got pregnant(supposedly a rape by some older married man named 'Ralph Gifford' of whom I can find absolutely no evidence) with my mother, Comilla Frances, and aunt Tillie also raised my mother. Aunt Tillie died in 1978, just before my 16th birthday. Lots of anecdotal info on family but no real data! Tillie grew up in Center Grove (I can't even find that in any searches!) and lived all her adult life in Millville. She was married a second time in the 1950's to her childhood sweetheart Robert Hanby, who died after only 3 yrs to cancer. Aunt Tillie was a remarkable woman and I wish i could get more info about her family.
