Pieter (George?) Pangbourne b. 1640-1642 Oxfordshire (town of Pangbourne is on the Bershire/Oxfordshire border); d. 1696 Woodbridge, NJ left England before 1660 and arrived first in New Haven Colony, then owned property in Long Island, NY in 1668, then migrated to NJ. married Grace Ffidoe. 2. Stephen Pangburn b.1671 d.?1746 married Joanna Tuttle(Tuthill). 3. Stephen Pangburn Jr. b.1695 d.1778 married Rebecca Imlay. 4. Lines Pangburn b.1742 d. 1781 married Anne Hazelton. 5. Stephen Pangburn b.1770 d.? married ? 6. William (Gustavus?) Pangburn b.1802 d.? married Catherine ? 7. Samuel Adolphus Pangburn b.1825 d.? married Hannah Cathcarte. 8. Samuel Adolphus Pangburn Jr. b.1851 d.1937 married Mary Eva Pharo. 9. Edward Lewis Pangburn (twin) b.1872 d.? married Clara Headley Charlesworth. 10. George Oscar Pangburn b.1905 d.1969 married ?- separated (Catholic--no divorce) lived with Elsie Bittle Stiles. 11. George Oscar Pangburn Jr. b. 1936 married Comilla Frances (Spencer) Pettit- divorced 12. Ravyn Comylla b. 18 may, 1962 married Lee Joseph Giuliani my inquiry is about Mary Eva Pharo, my GG Grandmother. Family anecdotes say that her real name was "SAY-NOH". I can find no genealogy for her at all. I am wondering if her name may have been PHAROS instead of Pharo because it was noted that she was of some exotic ethnicity(family rumor had her as 'indian' however, everybody in south jersey claims 'indian' and it is highly unlikely since the Lenapes left the area at least 100 yrs. before she was born!) Most likely I am guessing she was either Greek or Gypsy--perhaps both! But Xenobia is not an uncommon Greek name and it would have been pronounced "SAY-NOH-BEE-AH" and Sayno could be a short form of it. The story goes that Mary Eva or Mary Elizabeth was her Confirmation name--so again, Greek (Orthodox) is a possibility. I understand that Greek immigrants first settled the area in the 1850's. Any suggestions on how I might be able to find out more about this? Anyone heard of Pharos/Pharo in South Jersey? I know there are some in Philadelphia who are Greek. thanks, Ravyn
I know that some of your Pangburn lived in Northern NJ in the Cranberry area Trisha Fitz Randolph Founder/CEO FitzRandolph Historical Society of New Jersey www.rootsweb.com/~njfrghs FitzRandolph Research Site www.myfamily.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 18, 2005 2:18 PM Subject: [NJCUMBER] PANGBURN- 1640-2005, PHARO>PHAROS? > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: PANGBURN, PHARO, PHAROS, STILES, CHARLESWORTH > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wQB.2ACE/1078 > > Message Board Post: > > Just FYI (I have a question following this...) > > 1.
