    1. [NJCUMBER] Scarlet Fever
    2. For those who have tried to answer my post, here is a clarification and additional info.. Trenton has not been able to locate a death certificate based on the Jan. 1, 1892 date I gave them (this is the date on the tombstone). My great grandmother's name is Sara PICKHOLTZ. Alliance cemetery, Pittsgrove, Salem county, no longer has records that go back that far. Pittsgrove Twn. is missing all kinds of records including death, from 1885 to 1900. The county governments will only help if I know what town she died in. I don't know what town she lived in let along what town she died in. I have been told to check with local undertakers, remember this took place in 1892, so where do you look? Tombstone makers, same as above. Contact all the near by towns. What towns? Near by to what, the cemetery or the town of now Pittsgrove? Some towns are gone, other changed names, some even changed counties. Where do you start? Because of the above, I was trying to use the Scarlet Fever out break as a possible source to find at least the place of death. Help please, someone. Thanks, Steve Pickholtz

Any way you could email it to me at dave@darefamily.com ? Would be much appreciated, even if you are not yet finished, since I will probably have to compare thousands of the dates, which could take a while. :) Also, I am showing a Cornelia Millard b 30 Oct 1892 who married a 7th cousin of mine. Author: DelawareDolores Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.cumberland/2492/mb.ashx Message Board Post: As a holiday greeting, I offered look-ups from Cumberland County NJ Genealogical Data (records pertaining to persons residing in Cumberland County Prior to 1800) compiled by H. Stanley Craig. Since Cumberland was formed from part of Salem County in 1747, Craig's abstracts cover 1747 to 1800 only; for years before 1747, readers need a Salem County source. Craig also noted that data from Wills was only from 1780 on back. I've alphabetized requests, and am posting them on line so both the requestor and potentially interested others can see results. Where many entries were found for a surname, I'd appreciate your refining by first name or years, or posting so others can also help. 3. Steven - It's a lengthy process, but, can pay off, contact all the towns in and around Pittsgrove. Call or write their vital office to search for you. Also, try the cemetery again, while they might not have c.o.d., they may have a month and year of burial, most do. This would narrow the search when you call the towns. It took me a couple of months, and not until after my grandfather passed in the same conv. home, that his grandmother, who he swore died in Bridgeton, actually was in Deerfield township at the time of death, therefore, her death cert. was in Deerfield township, not Bridgeton, lol. 2. Hi Steve & List members, What Cemetery in Pittsgrove ( I Live close to them), and what was her name? The reason I ask is, I have transcribed many of the cemeteries in Pittsgrove, Salem Co., ( as well as some in Cumberland Co.,) I may have her info already....and I have posted it all to the Internet. One way to search through them yourself is _www.findagrave.com_ (http://www.findagrave.com) (Findagrave.com) and then click on New Jersey, then Salem County... and then each cemetery at your leisure. I hope this has been of help to you. Best Regards, Keith S Allen In a message dated 12/29/2007 10:49:59 P.M. I certainly did not mean to post the same thing 3 times, but on my first try "it" said there was a problem processing my request. I thought I'd try removing the word 'FREE,' so as not to look like spam. Then I'm not sure what I did after I got that msg. again, but surely someone must think I'm an idiot. Having experienced this, I can only suggest that when you post and get an error msg, you wait several minutes to see if it comes onto your Inbox anyway. Meanwhile, Michele Chubanko, whose post on another list alerted me to this news, has added that there is a listing of libraries that offer HeritageQuest at http://www.eogen.com/HeritageQuestOnline. If you know of any HQ-supplying libraries that are not listed, she says to send an e-mail to Dick Eastman, who appreciates updates. 1. [NJCUMBER] State Library offers census and more, to NJ residents
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: DelawareDolores Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.cumberland/2490/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The New Jersey State Library is now making HeritageQuest available for FREE home use to residents with ANY local NJ library card. This means we can first TRY using HQ for the Census year we need, before requesting help from others with paid subscriptions. When I say "try," I refer to HQ not being indexed for some of the years, whereas Ancestry or another large provider may be. Browsing page by page is reasonable if it's a small town, but not if it's large! At the URL below, you can learn about other offerings of HQ, besides the Census. Steps for access... 1) Have your local NJ library card handy. 2) Go to URL: www.jerseyclicks.com (cut and paste this into your browser) 3) Choose "Custom Search/Choose Database" (middle right of screen) 4) On the next screen, enter the library card bar code.(Mine worked with NO spaces) 5) The next page is the main menu of databases. Scroll to the Genealogy heading; click on "ProQuest HeritageQuest." It will launch in a new browser window (tab). BE PATIENT with HeritageQuest; pages open slowly, and often it will tell you that your info lies somewhere on a double page. But, what a thrill to see the actual handwriting (in case you disagree with the transcriber) or to note what neighbors they had. I once found one of my Langleys transcribed as Dembey, and Anna Eastwood was written as Anna E. Steward! (I found both by using one of the children's first name and probable age.) Those who don't reside in NJ should ask about HQ (and even Ancestry) availability at your nearest library. More facilities are joining each day.
