Might this be what you are looking for.... Creek name error fixed more than 300 years later Sunday, January 20, 2008 By Colleen P. Moore cmoore@sjnewsco.com CARNEYS POINT TWP. Who is Henby Creek named after? Technically, the answer is no one. When the waterway, which starts at Helms Cove, was named years ago, it was supposed to be in honor of William Hanby, a man who bought hundreds of acres in Upper Penns Neck from William Penn. Somehow, the spelling error went unnoticed, but officials are now learning that it's never too late to fix a mistake. There are no signs to mark it, so many residents might be unaware that the narrow, 1.4 mile stream running under the railroad, Route 130 and past Salem Community College is known as Henby Creek. But in the future, maps and any other markings will correctly call it by Hanby's name after the township committee approved the change at Wednesday's meeting. ...rest of the story found at... http://www.nj.com/news/sunbeam/index.ssf?/base/news-3/1200820206246060.xml&c oll=9&thispage=2 Malcolm Schalick Sharp -----Original Message----- From: njcumber-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:njcumber-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Barbara McCormick Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2008 5:51 PM To: njcumber@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NJCUMBER] Place name in Cumberland County I know Gandy's Beach.......but I thought there was a Hanby's Beach also. I have to tell you all that what Keith has said about FindAGrave is true. I have had the great luck in finding relatives on FAG and having the kind people take a tombstone photo. Not too long ago Emmanuel Cemetery in Penns Grove only had a few memorials; now, it has over 500 entries and lots of photos taken by the volunteers. FAG is a great website which helps all of us find ancestors without any cost to you. If you haven't visited the site, I would recommend you do so. You might find that "missing link." Hello Mary & Listmembers, There is a web site _www.findagrave.com_ (http://www.findagrave.com) On that web site you can search for whom you seek..If you find them, you can request that a picture be taken of the stone. There are many volunteers who go out and do just that. And it's done for FREE for fellow genealogists and researchers. Once you make a request the request goes out to all the volunteers ( I am one of them) in the area (of your request). And if someone can, they will fulfill your request. This database is searchable in 2 ways... 1st you can simply search by the name, place dates. by clicking on the link " search 20 million grave records" on the top right hand side of the web page. or 2nd if you know what the cemetery is you can search the cemetery itself. (This way you will sometimes also find other relatives buried next to yours) by clicking on " Search for a Cemetery" link you can go directly to the cemetery you are interested in. (No worry if you don't know what County it's in as long as you know the city there is a search to let you know what county) I have recently updated many of the cemeteries that I have done previously adding the pictures of the headstones to them. Most that I have done are in Cumberland County,NJ. and Salem County, NJ. I hope this is of help to those of you who seek lost relatives and or pictures of their headstones. Best Wishes in your searches, Keith S Allen In a message dated 1/13/2008 1:18:20 P.M.
