Hi Kathleen, I agree about accessing information from that time period. Its hard to know where to look, and you know there is good stuff out there. Thanks for the expanded commentary. Hi Walt, Thanks for the information. I think that there were few families who llived in the area in that time period that did not have some family members either killed or taken captives by the Indians. The freedom to have land was a pretty strong pull! I note there was a Colonel Josiah Ogden of NJ who DIED BEFORE REVOLUTIONARY WAR. Also a Colonel Aaron Ogden born NJ, served also in 1779 War with Indians...later Governor of NJ. I noted your recent emails about Ogden, etc. Raccoon Creek (near Ohio River) can be found on the map by searching for Hookstown, PA or the Raccoon Creek State Park in PA on RT 18 above intersection of RT 168. H Nancy, I believe this Raccoon Creek was in the now West Virginia area - or it could have been where Pennsylvania is now. No county was mentioned in the book - but here is a telling statement: "All of the above murders were perpetuated on or near the Ohio..." as in Ohio River. That was the frontier border in 1777 when this happened. The Maryland Journal (newspaper of the time?) reported the various massacres as they were sent items from various people. I quoted the paper just as the author of the book quoted it. No first names. But I thought it was interesting that he was from NJ. The author was relating various things that happened in the various time periods from 1769-1794. So these are some of the things he discovered in the Maryland Journal. Of course, he had other sources and they related other murders, etc. I wish the author had an everyname index of everyone in the book. Besides the main characters (Wetzels, Zanes, Boones, Cresap, Kenton, etc.), there are a lot of other names mentioned. Gosh, there is obviously so much material out there from that time period, that we need to be able to access so we can research our people!!! Sorry I could not help you more. Hi Walt, And when did your Faris line come from NJ to VA? I am thinking that perhaps my line came down about 1765-1770 - or about the time that the VA lands opened? (Only I wish I really knew they were in NJ...) Weren't the Davis' SDB? I don't think my group of Husted's were. Ayres is a common Northern Baltimore County name (where I live).
