    1. Re: [NJCUMBER] Vineyard/Weinberg family in Bridgeton
    2. Hello Blake, My husband's grandmother was a Vineyard from New Jersey. Her father was Frederick Heinrich Weinberg/Vineyard, born March 23, 1847, Bremen Germany, his father was Fredrich Heinrich Wilhelm Weinberg, born Nov. 12, 1820, Haldem, Levern, Germany. I have his father as Gerhard Henrich Weinberg, born Aug 24, 1791, Haldern, Levern, Germany. Gerhard Henrich Weinberg also had a son, Christian Heinrich Vineyard, born Nov. 5, 1815 Zundern, West Phalia, near Bremen, Germany. Christian Heinrich Vineyard had a daughter Wilhelmina Louise Vineyard, born March 9, 1858. I have that Wilhelmina Louise married Henry Ruberts, April 6, 1878, Swings Corner, Cumberland Co., NJ. I have that Henry was buried at Overbrook Cemetery. I don't have where Minnie is buried or when she died. I also do not have information of any children born to this marriage. I have a lot of information on the Vineyard/Weinberg family. I'd be interested to know of the information you have on them coming to the USA v! ia NYC. I haven't been able to find that out. I would be willing to share information on the family. He had a brother named Albert Sickler Baner and one named John. His sister was Mary Jane. Either Albert or John may have served too, but I can't find a source confirming that. His wife was Mary Emma Murphy. His children were Elizabeth, Florence, Rena, and William. There's a chance Elizabeth died young. You didn't list him, but there's another person you may be interested in if you want all the Civil War personnel associated with Cumberland County. David Cline. My information is that he was born in PA. He was in NJ by 1850, and by 1880 the family had moved to Bridgeton. His tombstone is in the First United Methodist Church cemetery on East Commerce Street in Bridgeton. He served in the Civil War with Company E 10th Regiment, NJ Volunteers for about 6 months and was discharged in Washington DC for disability. Good luck with your project. 1. Re: [NJCUMBER] GRAY family of NJ
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: sonja9 Surnames: GRAY; GREEN Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.cumberland/2510.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: LeezilAnne, Here is what I found on your Gray family. Since you mentioned the areas that they had resided in, I assume you had looked at the census records for the years that they resided in PA & NJ. Not having any dates or birth places to go by, it made it more tedious. You should always give dates and birth places, at least an approximation, as it makes it easier to look for the ancestors and for people who are related to connect. JOHN JOSEPH GRAY, b. September 4, 1884. On September 12, 1918 (WWI Draft Registration), he was residing at 29 Monroe Street in Bridgeton, Cumberland County, NJ. He was married at the time, but no first name was given for his wife. He was age 34 and his occupation at this time was that of a glass packer for Whitall Tatum Company in Millville, Cumberland County, NJ. His description given on this form was tall, slender, light blue eyes, dark hair. I couldn't find anything further on John that would mention the given name of his wife. THOMAS H. GRAY, JR., b. August 11, 1889 in Phoenixville, PA. His address at the time he registered on his WWI Draft Registration Card, 1917-1918 was 329 Pearl, Bridgeton, Cumberland County, NJ. He worked as a Laborer for the American Can Company in Bridgeton. He was single at the time at age 28. His description was tall, medium build, blue eyes, brown hair and not bald. On THOMAS's WWII Draft Registration Card in 1942, his middle initial was given as "A" (He signed it with an "A" also. Birth date was August 11, 1889 and birth place was given as Phoenixville, PA. His address was Reick Avenue, R.F.D. # 1, Millville, Cumberland County, NJ. He gave his sister, TERESA GRAY's name & address as the person who will always know his name & address. TERESA GRAY was residing on Commerce Street in Bridgeton, NJ. Thomas was 52 years of age at the time he filled out this card and was unemployed. I found THOMAS GRAY on a 1930 Census residing with his wife, SARAH and Sarah's son from her first marriage. They were residing at 112 West Main Street in the 5th Ward of Millville, Cumberland County, New Jersey. THOMAS GRAY, Head, Owns Home, Value of Home is 3,500, Age 41, Age at first marriage: 31, b. PA, Parents b. PA (this is an error, as his father was born in Ireland and his mother was born in NJ). However errors are common on census records. Thomas is not working. SARAH GRAY, Wife, Age 46, Age at first marriage: 21, b. NJ, Parents b. NJ, No occupation. DANIEL GREEN, Stepson, Age 15, b. NJ, Parents b. NJ, No occupation. THOMAS and the widow, Mrs. DANIEL GREEN, SR. (SARAH R.)were married some time shortly after January 2, 1920, as she and her son, DANIEL GREEN, JR. were residing in Bridgeton by themselves on this 1920 Census. Not having any children on the 1930 Census for Thomas and Sarah, I'd guess that they didn't have any, since they had been married for nearly 10 years. THOMAS H. GRAY, JR, b. 11 August 1889 in PA, died January 1966. His last residence was Millville, NJ. LOUIS LEO GRAY, b. December 5, 1893 in Phoenixville, PA. He was age 24, single, and residing at 329 North Pearl in Bridgeton, Cumberland County, NJ at the time he registered for his WWI Draft Registration Card, 1917-1918. His occupation at the time was that of a Rifle Inspector, working at the British Commission (Remington) in Eddystone, PA. His description at this time was Medium height, medium build, gray eyes, brown hair, not bald. I couldn't find anything more on Louis. TERESA M. GRAY, b.October 4, 1895, died April 1987; her last residence being Bridgeton, Cumberland County, NJ. SS card was issued in NJ (before 1951). SS # 158-24-0339. She obviously died unmarried. The only other two references that I found of her was, as I mentioned earlier, on Thomas, Jr.'s WWII Registration Card made out in 1942, that his sister, TERESA GRAY was residing on Commerce Street in Bridgeton, NJ, and on her brother, Carl's WWI Draft Registration card, but she was then residing at 329 N. Pearl Street in Bridgeton, NJ. If you send away for Teresa's SS Card (long form), you should be able to get her birth place and occupation, if she had one. The cost is about $27.00 to do so. CARL PATRICK GRAY, b. March 17, 1899. One can see why his middle name ended up being Patrick, being born on St. Patrick's Day. On his WWI Draft Registration Card, 1917-1918, he gave his age as 19 and gave his residence as 329 North Pearl Street, Bridgeton, Cumberland County, NJ. He named his sister, TERESA GRAY, as the person who would always know where he lived. She also lived at the same address as her brother, Carl did. Thomas also gave as his own address on his WWI Draft Registration Card as 329 Pearl in Bridgeton. CARL PATRICK GRAY's occupation at the time he filled out his WWI Draft Reg. Card was a Steam Fitters Helper for Baker, Smith & Company; the company's address being Amatol, Atlantic County, NJ. 1930 Census: Enumerated on April 3, 1930; Third Ward, Bridgeton City, Cumberland County, New Jersey. Resided at 583 South Avenue. GRAY, CARL, Head, Age 31, Married, Age at First Marriage: 25, b. NJ, Father b. NJ, M. b. Ireland (This is an error, parents birth places should be just the opposite), Occupation: Possibly Physical Ed. in a High School. GRAY, MARGARET, Wife, Age 30, Married, Age at First Marriage: 24, b. NJ, Father b. Austria, Mother b. Ireland. SSDI - CARL P. GRAY, b. March 17, 1899, d. April 13, 1993. Last residence was Bridgeton, Cumberland County, NJ. SS Card issued in NJ (before 1951). SS # 148-22-5939. I found 3 listings for a CARL P. GRAY: 1. In 1993, was residing at 132 Harvard Avenue, Bridgeton, NJ 08302; 2. In 1994, was 159 Lake Street W., Bridgeton, NJ 08302. Carl and Margaret have been married for 6 years and there are no children with them on the 1930 census. It may be that they didn't have any issue either. However, there was a Carl P. Gray mentioned in an address listing in Vineland, NJ, which is next to Millville, NJ. The year was 1996, after Carl Patrick's death. It could be that they did have a son in later years, or that it could be the son of John Joseph Gray and his wife. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NJCUMBER] FW: [NJ-GSNJ] GSNJ Spring Program Announcement, 26 April 2008

    3. -----Original Message----- From: nj-gsnj-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nj-gsnj-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Joan M Lowry Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 1:23 PM To: nj-gsnj@rootsweb.com Subject: [NJ-GSNJ] GSNJ Spring Program Announcement Hi All For those of you who have been wondering "When is GSNJ having our annual spring genealogy program?" We can now provide the answer! The Spring Program will be held April 26 in Avalon NJ. The day will feature nationally renowned speaker Marie V. Melchiori, CG, CGL, who will provide two lectures. Marie's topics will help us all get more out of research in the collections of the National Archives - whether in-person or on-line. A sit-down hot lunch is included in the price. It promises to be a useful and fun event. The event brochure is in the mail to members and subscribers. BUT you can see it even sooner by checking the GSNJ website <www.gsnj.org>. Click on the Events link on the left and then on the "click here" under the Event information. For even easier access try this link: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~njgsnj/pdf/2008SpringProgram.pdf Avalon is in Cape May County (which, for those of us in northern NJ, is pretty far south - wherever you think the north/south Jersey division might be!) There are several bed & breakfast inns, hotels, and motels open for business that weekend and it should be a good time to visit the area. The brochure has links to a couple of Cape May tourism sites to help you find a place to stay and places to play! So - why not plan to stay over and make a weekend of it? I know I am... More details will follow - but if you have questions - about the speaker, the topics, the area, let us know! If you would like a supply of the brochure for your library or society - please contact me off-list and let me know to whom they should be sent and how many! Thanks very much - we hope to see you "down the shore"! Regards, Joan
