They resided in Millville,Cumberland Co. and had two children Velma and Earl. Harry was the son of Frank Steelman Riggins born abt.1835 NJ and Myria Smith born abt 1840 NJ.     3. Elias Doughty is my GreatGreatGreat Grandfather. He did a lot in Cumberland County. I have included a short Bio on him and I'm hoping to find out more about him. If you know any thing else about the things he was involved in (the stage-line, west jersey railroad) or, he was also a member of the Masonic fraternity and associated with Checinah Lodge, No. 58, of Millville. If anyone has any info or knows where I can learn more about this history, please let me know. THANKS! ~ Valerie Foster wonder_woman@juno.com Hon. Elias Doughty Was born Nov. 19th 1821 in Gloucester Co. and when seven years of age removed to Millville, NJ. He was inured to labor from early youth, and found little respite from toil in the furnace, other then the winter months afforded, when the simple rudiments of an English Education were acquired. Having learned the trade of molder, he pursued it vigorously for twelve years, and on leaving the furnace, purchased the Stage-Line running from Philadelphia to Millville, NJ, which he successfully conducted for fifteen years. He married May 27th 1843 Miss Harriet M.C., daughter of Daniel and Lydia Tice, of Millville. There Children are John F., Beulah, Elbridge G., and Daniel W. Mrs. Doughty died April 20th 1858 and he married Oct. 29th 1873 Mrs. Elmira H. Lord, daughter of Col. Michael Hays of Burlington Co., NJ. In June 1866 Judge Doughty removed to Vineland as agent of the West Jersey Railroad and there remained until his death, Sept. 7th 1887. He was an active worker in the ranks of the Democracy and the recipient of many honors. He has served as freeholder of Landis Township and was in 1857 elected member of the State Legislature, when he was appointed to the Committee on Corporations, Passed bills, and Insane Asylums. He served five terms as associated judge of the Cumberland County Court. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity and Associated with Checinah Lodge, No 58, of Millville, NJ. Judge Doughty was educated in the faith of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Millville which his parents were members, as also the first and last Mrs. Doughty.     3. Hello all! Am new to the list & am looking for information on my ggggrandfather's family. He is descended from a line of Hoffmans who came from Sweden in the mid-1600s to settle in Cape May. Some settled in the Cumberland area. They were my gggggrandfather, Jonas Hoffman & some of his descendants. Jonas was born in 1730 Maurice River Twsp. Some of my info states "Salem Co.", while others state "Cumberland Co.". Jonas married Eleanor (last name unknown) who was born in 1734, Maurice River. One of their children, Jonathan (b 1753) married Louisa FOWLER. One of their sons, James (1788) married Elizabeth (last name unknown). One of their sons is my gggrandfather, Swain HOFFMAN (b 1818) in Lower Twsp, Cape May. Would like to be in touch with anyone who has ties to these Hoffmans that settled in Cumberland Co. I have read some of NJ history & realize this area is rich in the Revoluntionary War history. Through library info, have found that many of the Hoffmans were Loyalists. Both have a listing of their holdings, a list of publications for sale and membership application forms. Both have information on other counties in the area.
