My St. Paddy's toast today is that we will link Margaret Parsons Elmer to the Cape May Parsonses, our Downe/ Cumberland (Jehu) group, or both.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wQB.2ACE/1086.1 Message Board Post: Perhaps this will help collectors of Jarrell/ Jerrell/ Gerald/ FitzGerald, as well as Parsons. I want to make you aware of a John Isaac Jerrell who is the right age and place to be a possible bro. of your Jeremiah. It also raises my eyebrow to see a post mentioning both Fairfield and Haleyville/ Downe, since one of the earliest recorded Parsonses in South Jersey is the Margaret who md. Rev. Daniel Elmer (b. 1690 d. Jan. 14, 1755). They apparently had already married in Connecticut or Massa. before Rev. Daniel relocated as pastor of what later became Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Margaret was born Sept. 19, 1693 in Springfield, Mass. (original source for this is uncertain) and was granddaughter of Deacon Benjamin Parsons, one of Springfield's first settlers. Both Margaret and the Rev. died in Fairfield, NJ. I have not seen Margaret's d-date anywhere (though I have visited and photographed the later one for Rev. Daniel). Sources agree that she died young, after having several children, none of whom we can yet connect to our Jehu Parsons. Jehu d. in Downe twp. in 1834, in his late 90s. So far, we cannot prove that he was in S. Jersey earlier than a 1773 tax record (nor whether he relates to the earlier "Cape May Parsonses,") but so far we believe Jehu was b. in Cecil County MD in 1736. He and a brother Wm. (b. 1737) were sons of William and Gartaret/ Gertrit Lorenz/ Lawrence, who both died in Dec. 1741. Although Jehu probably had an earlier marriage, his oldest proven son (living at the time of his 1834 Will) was Jonathan Parsons, Sr. (b: 1776 in Downe Twp., d: Aug. 30, 1867 in Haleyville NJ). Jonathan Sr. md. Martha Daniels (b: 1786, place unk.) on March 03, 1803 in Cumberland, and he d: 1864. One of their children, Rhoda (b. 1804) married in 1821 John Logan or Leger (also called Holeger and Hollinger). Then her second husband was William Corson. The MHS chart has the marriages reversed, as determined by Rhoda's descendant Tom Hollinger. Tom says Rhoda was at least 50 at the time of the second marriage, and had no children with Corson. Another dau. of Jonathan and Rhoda was Sylvia "Silvie" Parsons b: Nov. 05, 1807 in Cumberland NJ d: May 09, 1888 in Haleyville. She md. John Isaac Jerrell (b: March 01, 1804) in Downe, on July 09, 1826, somewhere in Cumberland County, and d: June 05, 1878 in Haleyville. The only two children this chart names for them are Jonathan Jerrell, b: July 13, 1835 in Haleyville; d: Dec. 11, 1874 in Mauricetown; and Martha "Pattie" Jerrell. b: 1839 in Cumberland NJ, who md. John Berry (b: 1828). One o' these days, we Parsons descendants want to make further corrections and additions to this ambitious chart at MHS, or at least to note "see Jarrell chart" for Sylvia's branch, if you have something on file. Perhaps Tom Hollinger will chime in. Also, does anyone have the e-mail of a Margaret b. approx. 1947, whose mother is Lois Jarrell? I knew Margaret as a child. I recall that she had someone's Jarrell research and added to it, but no longer have her e-mail addy. Please share this with her so she can join this List, or send me her addy privately at dol_sol (at) hotmail.com.

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wQB.2ACE/1085 Message Board Post: I knew I'd seen that surname Pharo somewhere. A chart at the Millville Historical Society, titled "Descendants of Jehu Parsons," shows Walter S. Pharo as the first husband of Emma K. Parsons. I do not know if Pharo died young, or they were divorced, but Emma later married William A. Tilton (noted as born in Port Norris). There are no dates for Emma or Pharo, but Emma's father was the boatbuilder Charles Henry Parsons, 1822-1910. Another hint as to their ages is that Mary F. Tilton was born to William and Emma in 1892. I'm only interested in Parsons, not Pharo. Assuming Ravyn wants to track that name, however, perhaps you can use Ancestry or HeritageQuest at a local library and learn more from Census and other sources.

I recall someone had produced the diary it in word-searchable form (was that you?). I then combed through it and found a couple of references to a neighbor named Langley. Please redirect me to that, as it is possible that a Langley or two made the journey from South Jersey to Ohio also.

I have an Elizabeth Pharo that married Daniel Ford on May 16, 1857 in Lower Bank, NJ. I later found out that Pharo was not Elizabeth's maiden name. Elizabeth Van Note married an unknown Pharo and had children Charles (b. ca 1851)and Mary E. (b. ca 1856) before marrying Daniel. They were in Burlington County, though, not Cumberland. The Ford descendents ended up here in Cumberland County, though. I don't know what happened to Charles and Mary Pharo. D on't know if that helps anyone. :-) Paula in Millville, NJ Researching in NJ: Ford, Jones, Clark, Young, Forrest, Pease In WV: Buckland, Armstrong, Woodrum, Sims, Tucker
