My Mothers ancestor , Abner Smith , was born abt 1713, place unknown. Abner Smith (Sr.) was conveyed 150 acres of the Pampahilia survey between 1752 and 1755, and this family lived in Salem and Cumberland Counties until their move to Warren Co., OH in the fall of 1805. Sometime during his life he was married to Sara Ramsay who was admitted to the Fairfield Presbyterian Church on March 30, 1760. Abner Smith (Sr) is received as a full member of the same Church April 25, 1765. Abner and his wife (wives) had son William who married Abigail Davenport abt.. 1759, Hannah who married John Garrison in Dec 1762, Rhoda who married Samuel Bennett Oct. 18 1776, Elizabeth who married Daniel Westcott abt 1769 ,Sara Bennett Smith who married William Bateman Oct 27. 1772, and Abner (Jr.) who married Jemima Garrison abt 1776. The children were born starting in 1739 through 1754. Can any one on this list help me determine if Sara Ramsay was the mother of these children or if she was a second wife. Also was Ramsay her married name? Is anyone on this list working on the Ramsay surname? I would also like to know the relationship of the Smith names on the dedication stone of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church of Joseph Smith, John Smith, and Eleazer Smith. Any information or comments would be appreciated. John
Sarah Pepper was my 3rd great grandmother, b. 1786, and lived in Downe Twp., Cumberland County, NJ. She married John Bower in about 1814, and he died of consumption (lots of that in Cumberland County!) in about 1826. Sarah then married Lot Fithian about 1827 and lived in Fairfield Twp., and later married his brother, Ephriam Fithian in his old age, in 1834. I am trying to figure out which of the sons of William Pepper Sr. was the father of Sarah Pepper - John Pepper or Amos Pepper. The younger brothers - William and Jesse were too young, I think, to have been her father. Does anyone have any further information for me? Mary E. Hill
