Thank you. =================================================== Kathy, I recently asked the same question. I've copied some of the replies below. Hope this helps. Fred Lauver (searching for former RCA, Camden, employee Edward Carl TIPTON) FJLauver@prodigy.net ====================== My neighbor is a retired former RCA (later GE) employee from Morrestown, NJ. When I mentioned the RCA-Camden query/postings for records, he said he would try writing for these records to the following address... they will either forward your request to the proper place or inform you where you can write to for the records: --- Attention: Human Resources/FORMER RCA-CAMDEN RECORDS Lockheed-Martin Borton Landing Road and Marne Highway Morrestown, NJ 08057 --- ================================ As a former RCA employee, (Government Purchasing ; Corporate Staff Purchasing;) from 1953, I am not familiar with that name. Do you know where in Camden he worked? Would he have had a government clearance (RCA was a Navy facility). AOL has a directory and using RCA, it will pull up all profiles with RCA anywhere in profile. I have found some former employees in that manner. As you may know, in that time frame there was about 13,000 employees working in Camden. Old personnel records are probably down in the "catacombs" (dead storage). Have you tried calling the GE Human Resource office to see if they can be of any help. I believe there is still a group of retired RCA employees that get together in the area. Maybe an ad in the Courier Post would uncover something. Good Luck, Virginia Norton, Orange Park, FL. ======================== Fred, RCA is now either Martin Marietta or Lockheed Martin; I think the latter. No matter, you should be able to contact them using RCA. I work for the Postal facility that delivers their mail and everyone there knows what to do with RCA mail. You should probably just address it to the personnel dept. at RCA Corp., Camden, NJ 08101. They should be able to tell you whether they have the information you want or where you can get it. As for his Social Security number, have you tried looking him up on the Social Security Death Index at www.ancestry.com ? If the person you seek has passed away he should be listed. It will show where the SS number was issued, DOB, DOD, place of death and where any benefits were paid. Good luck, Joe jwklaudi@prodigy.net ========================== I asked my Dad, who retired from RCA in the mid-80s, about this. He recalled that when GE took RCA over, all personnel/benefits records were transferred to GE in Princeton, NJ. Might be worth a try...that is, if nobody's taken GE in Princeton over. -- Sandy Levins sandylevins@earthlink.net ================================== The old RCA plant is still there, though some of the original buildings have been demolished. The Camden County Historical Society has some information on RCA, but most of that is probably earlier than what you're looking for. You can see a picture of part of their exhibit on the CCHS website. http://www.cyberenet.net./~gsteiner/cchs/ There are several RCA "old-timers" groups that meet in the South Jersey area. Also, there is a genealogy group that meets at the Cherry Hill library that has several former RCA employees as members. http://www.cyberenet.net/~gsteiner/gensig/ General Electric took over RCA in 1986. GE then sold its aerospace division, which included the Camden plant, to Martin Marietta in 1992. Martin Marietta merged with Lockheed to form Lockheed Martin in 1995. Lockhhed Martin sold off the Camden plant to a new company in 1997, which is called L-3 Communications. So, with all these companies, it is hard to say where any original records would be, assuming that those records weren't tossed in a dumpster. http://www.l-3comm.com/CS-East/ ================================ The various unions at RCA Camden were (and are today at L-3): IFPTE - International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers http://www.ifpte.org/ ASPEP - Association of Scientists and Professional Engineering Personnel http://www.voicenet.com/~aspep/ IUE - International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine and Furniture Workers http://www.iue.org/ =============================
