Just had to share this with the Camden List. How wonderfully rare to find someone working in the system that truly loves his work. Note: that the archives have a lot on Revolutionary War Service Records too, etc. JSR Subj: Re: [NJCAMDEN] Re: Capt. Charles J. I am the staff member at NJSA who usually responds to the Civil War Service Record inquiries. This has arisen primarily because I am a Civil War buff and I truly enjoy searching our collections and being able to tell folks such as yourself a little bit about their ancestors in that conflict. I must tell you that we don't usually find quite so much information about any one person. In your case, we were fortunate because a.) he served in three different regiments, greatly increasing the chances of finding documents; b.) he was an officer, which also increases the odds of surviving documents; and c.) because the 25th regiment has an unusually large number of surviving documents. It was nice finding a physical description (even though I know you already had a picture) and a document with his signature. These are the kinds of things that can really give a sense of having a personal connection with their ancestors. FYI, we also have an extensive collection of Revolutionary War documents, and we also field many questions about Revolutionary War Service Records. We also have, but to a lesser extent, documents from the War of 1812, Mexican War, and the Spanish-American War. Again, I wanted to thank you for your kindness and to reiterate how much I enjoyed learning about your ancestor and his conribution, even unto "the last full measure" that President Lincoln so ably and reverently spoke of, during our National Conflict.
