Please post The African-American Genealogy Group of Philadelphia will have it next monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, 7-9 pm, at the Community College of Philadelphia, West Philadelphia Regional Branch, 4725 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA. Our speaker will be our own Shamele Jordon, current Recording Secretary and Webmaster for AAGG. Her topic will be "Freedmen's Bureau Field Office records: roll lists and record types" This brief session will introduce you to the NARA records of the field offices of the BRFAL. These records cover the years of 1865 - 1871 and are of high genealogical value to the family history reseacher studying Confederate States. Some of these records are available on microfim at the NARA in Philadelphia. Research forms will be provided to aid in locating and logging Reconstruction era ancestors. This will also be a "Meet the Candidates" nite, with a brief presentation from each of those running for office, President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer - our elections will be held at our June meeting. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor. Everyone is invited. There are no costs to the public for this event.
