Hi Brian, There were quite a few William SCUDDERs around -- just to make searches interesting! Capt. William CORSON SCUDDER was a sea captain, b. April 21, 1823, in Upper Twp, Cape May Co., NJ. My grgrgrandfather, John G. SCUDDER, was a younger brother. His parents were David and Martha Gandy SCUDDER. He went to sea at age 15 as a mate, working his way up to Capt. as a young man. He operated a Lumber Co., hauling lumber by ship and eventually moved to Camden, NJ, along the Delaware River. He bought a steam planing mill and manufactured wooden sashes and blinds in Camden with a partner. He eventually bought him out and owned SCUDDER Lumber Co., then SCUDDER & Son Lumber. He became the Master Port Warden in Camden until his death on Dec. 19, 1898. Over the years he provided many jobs for SCUDDER relatives who moved from Cape May CO. to Camden CO. during the industrial era. Hope you find your other William SCUDDER.
