This next phase includes posting finding aids and imaged collections linked to the browsable catalog unveiled a few months ago. The first round of on-line guides includes the following groups of records: Atlantic County Clerk's Office: http://www.njarchives.org/links/webcat/queries/catclerk.html Atlantic County Surrogate's Office: http://www.njarchives.org/links/webcat/queries/catsurro.html Department of Defense - Civil War: http://www.njarchives.org/links/webcat/queries/sedefen4.html Morris Canal: http://www.njarchives.org/links/webcat/queries/pcanalmo.html >From the pages listed above, link to the finding aid for a specific record series. Not all collections have guides, and some finding aids are simple listings of box or reel contents (e.g., county records on microfilm). However, in many cases you will find institutional histories, content notes, and item-level descriptions. As additional finding aids are posted, more and more research will be possible online or planned prior to a trip to the Archives. Of special note in yesterday's postings are two imaged collections: Civil War carte-de-visites (over 400) and Morris Canal Views from 1903. These images can be accessed through the Civil War and Morris Canal pages mentioned above via the record series, or directly through the Imaged Collections page at: http://www.njarchives.org/links/imgcollections.html Special thanks go to Archives staff members Veronica Meyer, Lois Bredlow and Joanne Nestor for their excellent work on refining pages, html mark-up and scanning images. Thanks also to DARM/Department staff Daniel Noonan and Richard Allen and our Division Director Karl Niederer for their ongoing support. Enjoy the site! We'll keep you posted on further developments. Best regards, Joseph R. Klett Chief of Archives P.S. Please forward to any relevant lists or bulletin boards. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ -- Michelle Tucker Chubenko Professional Genealogist http://mywebpages.comcast.net/famhist/michprogen.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NJGenWeb: Genealogical Calendar of Events http://mywebpages.comcast.net/famhist/calendar.htm
