Re: CHARLES J. FIELD b. abt. 1834 Philadelphia, PA. son of JOHN FIELD and ERNESTINE ABERCROMBIE. Died 1864 Civil War. (family lived in Philadelphia, Lancaster County, Camden, NJ. NYHS website: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/cwnyhsquery.html I was GOOGLE searching CIVIL WAR sites last evening and came across a wonderful archive for CIVIL WAR items at the web site for NEW YORK HISTORICAL SOCIETY and found my 2 great grandfather's name CHARLES J. FIELD, listed on five posters. I had no idea he was a recruiter until I made this discovery. There are other names listed on these posters. I was searching for the possible uncle of CHARLES J. FIELD who may be Brig. General JOHN JOSEPH ABERCROMBIE, possibly the brother of CHARLES' mother, ERNESTINE ABERCROMBIE (FIELD) and for fun tried CHARLES' name too and was well rewarded.
