    3. Rootsweb is aware of this problem, and is trying to get it fixed. Apparently, NJCAMDEN-L is not the only Rootsweb mailing list that is being blocked by AOL. Rootsweb has had problems with AOL before, so it is not certain how quickly this will get resolved. AOL is known for not being cooperative with those outside of its system. You can also help by posting any additional information you might have at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/mail.cgi This problem was caused by the new "MyDoom" email virus. One of the things that this virus does is steal email addresses from infected users' address books, and then use those email addresses to fake where the virus is coming from. Someone who had NJCAMDEN-L in their address book must have been infected, and now the virus is faking the NJCAMDEN-L email address as it is being sent out. For some reason AOL has elected to block the NJCAMDEN-L email address rather than block the IP address from whence the virus came. Other large email companies like Comcast and Yahoo have been able to handle this problem, and separate virus emails from real ones, but AOL doesn't seem to be able to handle this. Two things can be done to help this problem. One is to always have up-to-date anti-virus software on your computer. The second is to go to one of the free email services like Yahoo, and set up for yourself a backup email address to use when you may be having problems with your regular email account. As for missing messages that may have been sent to NJCAMDEN-L, all of those messages are saved in an archive which is searchable. You can find out everything you need to know about NJCAMDEN-L at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/usa/NJ/camden.html Hope this helps, at least until AOL solves its problems. 2. Dear List Administrator, I have not received any mail from the rootsweb mail list for the past several days. I called the AOL Postmaster at 1-888-212-5537 to find out why this was happening as I belong to quite a few rootsweb mail lists. They told me that they had had such a flood of complaints from other AOL members because the AOL members were receiving so much spam mail with their rootsweb mail, AOL had to shut down all email going to all AOL members. I was not one of the ones who complained to AOL and I have not received any spam mail from any of the rootsweb mail lists. The AOL Postmaster told me that the only way this problem could be solved was that each List Administrator must contact the AOL Postmaster at this phone number 1-888-212-5537 and work with AOL to solve this problem. Until the List Administrator straightens out the problem with AOL, none of us who belong to AOL will receive any of the rootsweb mail. So please List Administrators call the above number and straighten out this mess. Janet

    1. [NJCAMDEN] Re: [NJBurlin] Old Tombstones?
    2. Hi Steph, I read some time ago that using pieces of Styrofoam chunks (like those that come in large packages to hold items steady) to rub over stones that are covered with moss and lichens would work without being nonabrasive. I have to tell you that my husband and I decided to try this on some ancestors' old spire like monument up in RI that was put up abt. 1898. We couldn't read 5 of the 6 names inscribed plus decorative detail due to it being covered with lichens and moss. We rubbed the whole monument with the Styrofoam chunks that made the lichens just roll up, then periodically poured gallon jugs of water over our work just to keep rinsing off debris. Then we both used soft bristled brushes to gently rub around all the names and letters that were filled with moss also, then repeated the whole process again with the Styrofoam and water. We ended it all by lightly spraying a fine mist of Tilex for Mildew on the worse parts and letting that spray air dry so as to kill any remnants of moss. I couldn't believe the improvement!! We did this last year and I must say the monument looked brand new when we finished and still looks great as of 2 weeks ago. The caretaker even came over to see what we were using and couldn't believe the 100% improvement with 45 min. of work by us. I now carry a little plastic bag in my trunk with Styrofoam, brush, and tilex. Just add water to an old milk jug and you're good to go! Good luck.
