    1. [NJCAMDEN] Sophia ??? ~ Wife of George Rink
    2. Dori
    3. Hello Everyone, I am new to this list, which I am happy to see is quite active. I was wondering if anyone could help me with tips or info on Sophia ??? ~ Wife of George W. (May be for Walter) Rink. I don't have much info on them except: Sophia was born abt 1848 in Ireland. George was born abt 1835 or 38 in PA (however 1870 Census says Ireland). The family is in the 1870 census in Camden, NJ with sons Jacob and George W. and The 1880 census in Philadephia with children Jacob, George, Sarah Ann and David. According to census' both of Sophia's parents were born in Ireland and both of George's parents were born in PA (which discounts him from being born in Ireland). According to the ages of the children I am assuming they were married abt. 1867. Any hints, tips or info on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help ~ Dori

    1. [NJCAMDEN] Wisham Family
    2. Diana Morgan Ashowrth
    3. Hello- For the last thirty years, on and off, Ive been working on the Wisham family of New Jersey. Now, we are suddenly losing some of our older family members, and one in particular who is terminally ill. Its spurred me on to pull all my research together to make a presentation book on her family for her. I know it would please her so much. But once I started all sorts of questions arose. For the last two months Ive been able to figure most of them out, but now Im slogged down in a mire of who, what, where, when, and whys - and time is running out. So, Im turning to as many people as I can who might have information about New Jersey Wishams. My major problem is connecting Samuel P. Wisham back to other Wishams that have already been researched. Some researchers have put data on the web showing Samuel P. Wishams parents as William and Jane Thorn Wisham. And his paternal grandparents as Joseph and Maria Wisham. However, Samuels wedding certificate to Phebe Peters (daughter of Philip Peters of Pemberton, NJ) shows Samuels father listed as Isaac Wisham, a carpenter. A Gloucester County, NJ will (3498H) shows Joseph(c. 1770) and Maria Wisham (c1780) having three children, William (1797) (spouse Jane Thorn), Rebecca (1799) (spouses Eli Parker, and James Prickett), and Isaac (1802) (showing no wife and children). Does anyone know if Isaac ever did have a wife or offspring? Could he really have been Joesphs father and could William have been his uncle who brought him up and not his father? In the 1860 census Samuel P. and his wife and children are living near William and Maria Wisham and William and Jane Thorn Wisham in Waterford Twp, Camden. Also, Ive found these six additional Wishams but have no idea how they fit in Josephs descendents: George Sparks Wisham (1804) married to Ellen Downing (1819) with children David (1838), Benjamin (1843), Adelaide Elizabeth (1850), and George Henry (1851). 1860 Census Shamong Twp, Burlington Jacob Wisham (c.1779 Marlton, Burlington) married to Desire Sharks (Sparks) with children George, Charles, and Samuel (1836). 1850 Census- Evesham Twp, Burlington Samuel Wisham (c. 1800-1810) married to Elizabeth English on December 30, 1830 with one son Samuel. Joseph Wisham (c. 1800) married Mary Ann Rose of Little Egg Harbor, Burlington, NJ and had children Mary Ann (1850), Charlotte (1853), Ann M. (1855), and Ezra (1859). Mary Wisham (c. 1777-82) married Samuel Haines (July 26, 1803 in Medford, Burlington) and had children: William (1803), Ira (1804), Habakkuk Eayres (1807) {huh-bak-uk name of a prophet}, Sarah or Susana (1812), Mary Ann (1818), Samuel (1821) Sarah A. Wisham married Carlton Evans and had children Joseph E. Evans (1850), Charles R. (1856), and Nathan L (1859). 1860 Census Evesham Twp, Burlington. Lastly, two Wisham cousins ? fought together in the 23rd regiment during the Civil War, but I dont know who their parents were. Or if they were really cousins. And for the million dollar question: Has anyone traced the family back to Simon Wisham who came to Philadelphia, PA in 1750 or was there a later immigrant ancestor? Thank your for all your help. 1. [NJCAMDEN] Batten Family
    2. Scott Ferguson
    3. I have a letter from the US Army Adjutant General to a Rosanna Batten stating that Isaac Batten had deserted the US Army in 1857. I have been able to establish that Isaac S Batten was in the proper military unit and I have reason to believe that this Rosanna and Isaac Batten are Rosanna Leonard and Isaac Batten who were married in Camden Co, NJ in 1853. Unfortunately there are two (2) Isaac S Battens who might fit the bill - one the son of Charles and Mary Batten and the other the son Jeremiah and Ann Batten (m Deborah abt 1869) - both in the Gloucester/Camden county area. Can anyone help me determine who is who? Thanks PS: I can't figure out how this is connected to my family but I have Haines, Spencers and Randles in the area at the time.

    1. [NJCAMDEN] How to find Guardianships 1852?
    2. Greetings Camden researchers! I am researching my WEST and SPIEGLE (SPEIGLE, SPEAGLE, SPEAGLES, even SPRIGGLES just to throw off Soundex) lines in Camden County. WEST were a transient line. Spiegle spent a generation or two there - specifically, Waterford, from what I can tell. Family history has the mother, Hester (PALMER) SPIEGLE dying in 1851 and the father (John) Philip SPIEGLE dying 1852. At that point, 21 Dec 1852, there were several minor children. Presumably they needed guardians and that's what I'm looking for. I haven't yet gotten to the FHC to order death records for the parents. Are there also guardianship records I can order? Any leads appreciated! Janet janetb@bigfoot.com
