I see from the 1880 census that his wife was Rebecca. There are a few Rebecca SMITH entries, none are listed "widow of Ulrich". There is one "widow of Isaac". I can email the exact addresses for the Rebeccas if you are interested--generally they were at Fern, 9th and 9th near State. Kathy Vince -- when I have time, I'll get the info for Rebecca still living in Camden in 1900 with a son. Joan

Hi, Does anyone on list have access to the Camden City Directories? For the above two decades, or some part thereof? It appears probable that Ulrich SMITH died before the 1900 census - and the city directories thus become helpful in ascertaining, not only the whereabouts of Ulrich, but to a degree, when he died. If you can perform a lookup on him, it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Vince Summers
Joan, affectionately known to us as Inn118, has found the parents of Amanda Augusta SMITH who had married Wilson Jr FITZGERALD. They were Bavarian-born Ulrich SMITH and West Virginia-born Rebecca VANAMAN, his wife. In 1870 she found the family *with* Amanda in Philadelphia. In 1880, she found them in Camden. Ages, events, locations, and so forth all agree that there is *no way* this could not be the correct set of parents.
