MaisieAnn: There were three posts in Camden: the Hatch Post; Thomas M.K. Lee Post #5; and the William Robeson Post, which was African-American. The Camden County Historical Society has all of the surviving records for the Lee Post, including an incredible "Book of Memories." C.C.H.S. also has some records from the Hatch Post. While there could be additional material at, say, the Civil War Museum in Philadelphia, it appears that the Society holds the lion's share of the records. Looking for any and all Normans to add to my family tree - am missing some branches so please do e-mail me with your name to see if we connect. Thanks Barbara Norman Nocchi
Sue, Yes! that would be terrific! My research has been at a standstill for several months. I don't remember your "Tweedy connection". Mine is believed to be as follows: James Robert Tweedy, born 1863 in NJ (son of Joseph & Catherine Tweedy) married (likely- no proof yet) Sarah Williams in Camden, NJ c.1891. She was the daughter of Ann Eliza Cox, II and and her first husband, John Williams, bn in Delaware, died in Philadelphia (at work?) in 1871. I believe the 1900 census incorrectly has her birth as Nov 1872 at 28 years old. If 28 is correct, the year was 1871, the same year her father died. The 1880 census has her at 9 years old in June of 1880, thus born in the second half of 1871. Sarah and James had at least three daughters....Catherine E. bn Mar 1892, Anna A. bn Mar 1898, Sarah M. bn May 1905 (source 1905 Camden City Census, 12 th ward, S. 35th St). Sarah again declares her birth year as 1872, but now the month is January. Since her father died in November of 71 we're in range. Joseph Tweedy's will names "everyone". He died 4/17/1900. James died 6/7/1921. Sarah died12/7/1910, but Trenton claims to have no record. I wanted it to prove the ID of her parents. Den49co@aol.com Dennis E.Cox Southern NJ

Can you help me find the family of Louis Theodore DeRousse, of whom the following information was obtained: Member of the Union Army in the Civil War. Burial Services by a "Rev. Charles Bowden" at Louis' home at 326 North Sixth St., Camden, NJ. Interment in family plot at Harleigh Cemetery. Died at his daughter's, Mrs. (Dr.) James D. Farrar, at 7103 Old York Rd., Oak Lane, PA, [of Nervous Breakdown and abscessed liver, Camden Post Telegram of 9-01-1921] on Saturday, 2:15 in the afternoon [Camden Courier of 8-28-1921]. Worked on the Philadelphia Ledger, till age 20, in 1864. Enlisted in 1864 in the Eighth Pennsylvania Reserves. Came to Camden in 1870 as an accountant [One account, more believable says he worked in Phila after hostilities, for W. H. Horstman and Sons, and in 1874 came to Camden, associating with Wilson Fitzgerald, whose entry, see. Went into flour & grain trade, but forced to discontinue because of health. 1880 Became Camden County Freeholder representing the First Ward of Camden. The next year, he declined renomination. 1888-1891 City Comptroller of Camden. 1895-1898 Assembly, New Jersey Legislature, final part as Speaker. 1899-1903 served as Postmaster of Camden. Mason, Camden Lodge #15, F. and A. M. and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Member of the Camden Lodge of Elks. Grand Army of the Republic, Post 37. A co founder of the Camden Microscopica Society. Camden County Historical Society. He founded and was the first President of the Camden Republican Club. Also an "Odd Fellow". 326 North Sixth Street in Camden, NJ, is now the Camden Toll Plaza for the Ben Franklin Bridge, according to Camden County Historical Society's "Communicator" of Spring 1996. I would be especially interested in his daughter and her husband, Dr. James Farrar. Andreas DeRousse, his father who fought for Napoleon, would be of interest also. Vince
Hi, everyone... hope I haven't asked this yet... can't remember. CHEW family or KITE family. Adele Annie Kite is in my tree, as is Walker W. Chew. I remember my Grandmother Ayres, saying she played with her tall cousins, possibly one named Wilson or Wesley. The Kite may have been adopted for Adele K. Ayres as her middle name from her mother's sister-in-law, Adele Annie Kite. Thanks for any glimmers of light on this. Vince

Dear Folks: In recent times, I have gotten many leads on Ayres, Stockhams, Fitzgeralds, and others in my mother's line. It has been great, and many people have been so helpful. Now the great vast wilderness lays before me. Here's why: SUMMERS... My father, Vincent DePaul (or Depaul) Summers was married to Adele (AYRES). I don't know where they got married, though it was probably either Camden County or Philadelphia. I am not sure of the wedding date. It was July of either 1946 or 1947, as I recall from reading my father's wedding band when he would show it to me. He used to check it for his anniversary, so he would know when to get a present for Mom. They are buried at Colestown Cemetery. That much I know. But I don't know my Grandmother's maiden name. I know my grandfather's name was John SUMMERS, but I don't know where he was born. He spent much of his adult life in Manayunk, PA. He had Paul (who spelled his last name differently), John, Ellen, Mary (d at 12 yrs from horse kick to head), Thomas (stillborn), and a few others. Paul lived in Barrington. No SS indexes except for my dad and mom. Where do I begin... what is the easiest first step... to getting info on the Summers family? Nope, Ancestry and Family Tree Maker are no help. I sure could use some ideas or a "Hey! I knew them! At the wedding, there may have been a Harry Marsh and his wife there, perhaps he being best man, because they were the matchmakers. My mom had been married for 6 mos. to a Roy L. Richardson, if this is of any use. Help! Vince -- *===========================================================================* *Vincent E. Greetings, I would very much appreciate someone looking for an obituary of the following two people. Email would be preferred, but would be glad to pay reasonable expenses for copying and mailing also -- please contact me first. Following information is from Soc Sec Death Index. 1 - DRANGMEISTER, WIlliam, b. 11 Jan 1886; d. May 1969; SSN: 084-07-4738; Residence was Camden, Camden Co, NJ at time of death. 2 - DRANGMEISTER, William, b. 16 Sep 1926; d. Jun 1980; SSN: 202-22-3262; Last Soc Sec payment sent to Collingswood, Camden Co, NJ so I'm guessing that he may have lived there at the time of his death. Don't know that laws are in NJ, but if anyone has access to death certificates, I would like to know who the parents of No. 1 above are. If not, how would I go about getting a copy of one? Fees? Address? I am not a member of this list, so please email me directly. I, too, would like photos from Harleigh Cemetery in Camden, but don't know the plots, etc. The names? Certainly Charles Shimer Boyer and Anna DeRousse Boyer... Perhaps Louis Theodore DeRousse and his spouse, also! But wait... At home I *do* have the plot location. Is anyone going there and willing to charge a reasonable fee?
