Gary Steiner suggested Switchboard. I had tried WhoWhere. Switchboard is infinitely better. It had even the full first name with middle initial! No need for lookup now. Thanks Gary and all... Vince
I don't believe it, folks! I am supposed to call my cousin Veronica in about 1 hour, and I can't find the number you looked up... V. Egolf 8 Cranberry Court Marlton, NJ She works third shift as a nurse and asked me to call after 10... Please help. This will be my first person-to-person contact with her after 35 years! Have just returned from NJ where I visited the Gloucester Co. Historical Soc. I purchased the "Genealogy of the Chew Family" book. Happy to do lookups for you, but they may be slow if I get a lot of requests. Barbara PS Does anyone know if there is a NJ Burlington list?
Hello everyone. Ordered a stone for my grandfather's grave in New Camden cemetery. Went to NJ last Monday hoping to see stone on grave. It is still at the monument makers, but he cannot put it on the grave as no one can tell him where the plot is. The DPW tells him the foundation is in and that someone called Moore's Burials put the the foundation in. When he calls them to find out where in the cemetery it is located they have an answering machine and do not return his calls. He, Ravelli, does not have a map of the cemetery, but we knew the plot#, etc. to order the foundation. Does anyone know someone who can help us? We need to rattle someone's cage to get Moore's to give us some answers. Thanks for any help you can give. Barbara
Folks! I have been getting good response from all of you. And these Sommers family names are from Burlington, mostly! Bravo! I will post a couple of more names for now (don't have too many more at this point). Does anyone know (and I am not sure if this is Camden County, Burlington County, or where else, but I believe it is close... David Fenwick or Lou Fenwick what their address in the phonebook may be? And Harvey and Rita Hacking is the other. Thanks for your help, encouragement, and I hope you find the ones you are looking for, especially if they are alive! OK... Here is the big followup... I have these names... Would any kind and understanding soul look these names up for me in a telephone book? Sarah Schwinn of Cherry Hill Doris Sinton in Marlton Harvey (or Rita) Hacking in Pine Hill Tom Sommers in Berlin One or two (or three?) of these may not be in Camden County. If you do not have access to an appropriate phonebook, please let me know what county they are in, and I will post to that county. Thanks!! Ever so much! Vince
I just cannot believe it. A tip to check the Barrington Borough has crumbled Jericho. Being a government agency, I felt it would reject my plea for a little info on my Sommers line. It sent back, free of charge, a swollen envelope with much in the way of nice tidbits...AND... a change of address! This led to a cousin, who changed the address of her mother to be the same address as herself. I wrote. I phoned. No return.... Then I got a letter. They couldn't get through on the phone (I do right much searching genealogically). Photos arrived, and a huge list of LIVING relatives who knew the dead ones also!!! And thanks to one trivial, minimal, almost silly- seeming suggestion. That I bathe in the Jordan seven times? Well, seemingly as small. But I listened! Thanks ever so much! Jericho has crumbled! Vince
I, on reinstalling my browser, lost my address book. If I had an arrangement where I was going to provide information to someone at this Camden address, please contact me, remind me, and give me your address. Sorry to contact the whole group over this, but I am exceedingly active, and have received many kind favors, and do not wish to fail to fulfill obligations! Vince
Thought I'd take a minute to pass along the title of a book I'm really enjoying--seems especially appropriate for this time of year! _Old Burial Grounds of New Jersey: A Guide_ covers wonderful old cemeteries throughout the entire state. But more than that, it talks about preserving old burial grounds; old funeral and burial customs; designs, motifs and epitaphs used on so many of the old stones and, last but not least with Halloween just around the corner, ghost stories and legends. You'll also find a listing of "notable NJ burial grounds," including Camden County's Friends Meetinghouse and Burial Ground (Haddonfield), Harleigh Cemetery and Johnson Cemetery (Camden), the Friends Burying Ground (Collingswood) and Mt. Pisgah African Methodist Burial Ground (Lawnside). Finally, the book lists notable burials in NJ, provides an appendix of county historical resources throughout the state as well as a genealogical index, and even suggests "educational activities." Published by Rutgers University Press and written by Janice Kohl Sarapin (described as a founding member of the NJ Graveyard Preservation Society--did you know there was such a thing?), _Old Burial Grounds of New Jersey_ sells for $14.95. I got mine at my local Barnes and Noble. Fun (and interesting) for this time of year when ghost and goblns roam the countryside! -- Sandy Levins sandylevins@earthlink.net
Sorry I can't help with Brotherhood Cemetery--give the Burlington Co. Historical Society a call at (609) 386-4773 (hours: M-Thurs 1-4 PM; Wed. 10-12 noon; Sun. 2-4 PM). Woodmansie is in Burlington Co., and appears to be in the vicinity of Chatsworth. In checking my BurlCo. map, it appears to lie just south of Lebanon State Forest, not very far from the border of Ocean Co. If you're at all familiar with the area, you can get there by following Route 70 East. The most direct way appears to be Rte. 70 to Four-Mile Circle, where Rtes. 70 and 72 intersect. Follow Rte. 72 South toward Barnegat. When you get to the Conrail tracks (Savoy Blvd.), head east and you should find yourself in Woodmansie. Good luck! -- Sandy Levins sandylevins@earthlink.net

Did anybody on this list go to Collinswood High? It's right next door. Vickie
I understand that Lydia Ann Riel of Camden County , NJ married Thomas Downs of Gloucester County on Feb 15, 1851. Lydia's father and mother were Aaron Riel and Maria Hector Riel. Does anyone have a record of this? Are Aaron and Marie in the 1850 Camden Census. I found them in the 1860 census in Salem County but I haven't been able to find them in the 1850 census. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Jean
