Folks, A distant cousin wrote me to ask me to assist her with regard to a 1920 Census entry. She thinks I am somewhat knowledgeable on this topic. Not particularly. Can you assist in this? And if an *image* was available, it would be great. I would *not* take credit for the lookup - it is not the way I work! Here, then, is what she asked me: "I was wondering if you know where I can find the 1920 census for Gloucester City? You seem to know a lot about that - my mother lived with her Aunt and Uncle on Martket St. in Gloucester and I don't know if it was her father's brother or her mother' brother. If it was her mother's it would be ZIMMERMAN, but if it was her father's it would be SNELLBAKER. It has been a mystery, since she only refered to them as Aunt Teen and Uncle Harvey. She said that Uncle Harvey was her real relative by blood." Punctuation modification made by me... Thanks for any help, Vince Summers

Is the 1930 NJ Census now being tapped by some? I really, really want to learn of my greatuncle's family. He is almost unknown to me. I would be happy to pay for a lookup of them in that census, if someone would be willing to do that for me. He may have been in Burlington County by that time -- I suspect he was. Let me know if you can assist. Wayne Egbert AYRES who had married Alice N. I do not know what the N. was for. Thanks, Vince Summers
Thanks to all of you who looked up my great-grandfather, Alfred Long, in the 1930 census for me. I appreciate your time and effort! It gave me some information about my uncle that I didn't know. We only knew him as Bonsall, but his real name was Alfred Bonsall Jr. He went by his middle name. I have another question. I vaguely remember a discussion about death certificates being received with the cause of death blacked out. I am about to order several death certificates. Is there a way that I can order them with the cause of death still listed on them? Jodi
I received an obiturary from The Courier Post and Morning Post dated Nov. 30, 1932, and thought other names included might be helpful to others. Edward Sleeper-Godfrey, Emil F. Jentsch, Harry James Lippincott, William C. Buri, William T. Reimbold, Mrs. Hannah C. Stowe, and Eleanor Porch. Shirley
Jodi, If you know the town where the person was pronounced dead, you can order death certificates from that locality. Each municipality maintains a vital record office. When I have ordered them through the local authority, the cause of death has never been blackened out. Note I said above "where the person was pronounced dead". That is the key. If a person died at home and the doctor or whomever pronounced the death there, then that town would have the certificate. However, say in the instance where the person was transported to a nearby hospital, then the certificate would be found in that town. Hi everyone, Vince and I are working together on our shared POTTS line. I want to thank you for all of the help you've given us! Would SKS be able to search the 1920 census for the following? Camden, Camden County or possibly in Audobon Mary Ellen or Ellen POTTS widowed approx age: 50-60 born: PA She may be enumerated with the following children: George, Ellen, Alfred E., Joseph and Charles. Thank you for your time and help! Take care, Tracy
Glenn, This is a FIRST!!! Many of the NJ County list subscribers launched an E mail, letter writing/phone call blitz in Feb. to NJ Dept. of Health Assemblywoman Loretta Weinberg due to Trenton returning checks and written requests, stating they couldn't look up a certificate without the parents' names. Of course this was ludicrous since one of the main purposes of requesting an old death cert. is to learn the parents' names of the deceased ancestor. I hope your message means a change in heart in Trenton as no one ever had the courtesy to return a phone call or reply to our E mails except in 1 case of a "hold them off" type form letter response. Let's hope that others receive such wonderful responses as your following message implies. Thanks for sharing this as I intend to share w/ some of these lists. Liz- There wouldn't be a different SS number for a survivor collecting benefits--only the letter that follows the SS number would change--not the account number. Only the death of the account holder is included in the SSDI. Of course, there are several possibilities as to what could have happened--right on down to the person assuming a new identity under government auspices through the witness protection plan. Joan
I would check with Social Security to see if the second number is for a survivor collecting benefits on the decedent's account, which is perfectly legal. It might be an error in the SSDI as well, best to check the records before jumping to conclusions about the legality involved. Liz Harrison
Vince, That doesn't surprise me. My husbands grandmother died in 1969. He knows, so do his siblings and everyone else. He was 23 and a pallbearer. The SSDI has her death in 1981. It is still a mystery as to why. We posed this to my father in law when he was still living and he didn't know why either. He has 2 sisters still living, we think one of them knows, but, they're not talking. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vincent E. I will not list the person, folks, but one of my lines appears to show the same person twice! Two ***different*** social security numbers. Two different states. --> The same birth and death dates and the same name - a rare one <-- The one SSN was Proven (P) with a death certificate. The second on was Verified (V) with a family member or one acting in their behalf verifying the person! This sounds crooked, and like the person (from Camden and from California) collected twice, or their descendant(s) did. Has anyone else ever heard of this or had it happen in their family lines?
