    1. [NJCAMDEN] Re: Trenton State Archives
    2. Thanks to those that replied. I checked the website, then called the NJ State Archives in Trenton. Here's what I learned: --The hours are Mon-Fri 8:30-4:30. --No change is needed. You pay for copies at the end of the day, at 50 cents each. --Vital Records begin in 1848 and are organized by county, some in books and some on microfilm. --When requesting that the staff does the research, by law they can only go into records up to 1878, but the public can go into records after that. --Births: 1848-1923 organized by last name, then year, then child's name or if not named, then by parent's name --Marriages: 1848-1940 organized by year, listed alphabetically by either bride's or groom's surname, depending on the year. From 1904 all are by groom's surname. --Deaths: 1848-1940: organized by year, then alphabetically by surname. Interesting fact: There are marriage records filed in NJ for ceremonies either performed in PA or for people from PA. The person I spoke did not know what. (Just another way to drive us crazy. ) Merle

    1. [NJCAMDEN] William FOWLER in Camden City Directories?
    2. Vincent E. Summers
    3. William FOWLER now appears fairly obviously to be the parent of Wiletta FOWLER who married a FITZGERALD. William Proud FITZGERALD, the child of this marriage, born in November, 1890, is listed at the same address as William FOWLER, at his birth - hence, it appears the trio were living in the parent FOWLER household at that time, on Columbia Street in Philadelphia. OK. I would not bother you folks, except I have not found "the rest of the story..." William FOWLER was found in the 1891 Philadelphia City Directory at Columbia, but is not to be found in 1885, 1890, or 1895!! Hence, I grow suspect that he and the family may have moved to Camden, which is a major home-territory for the FITZGERALDs. Wm FOWLER was a butcher. He may, of course, have retired, but in 1891 he was listed as such. Does anyone have 1892 or later in the Camden City Directory, or even the 1900 census, that may see this William FOWLER - possibly even with some FITZGERALDs in the house? Thanks, Vince Summers

    1. [NJCAMDEN] COOPER ca 1775
    2. David Eyre
    3. Looking for information about Isaac COOPER of "near Campden, New Jersey", as listed in the bible of his grandson, Isaac EYRE (1819-1904). Isaac COOPER's daugher, Elizabeth, b. 28 Nov 1778, d. 8 Oct 1851 in Langhorne, Bucks Co, PA, m. Isaac EYRE, b. 19 Apr 1778 in Chester, Delaware Co, PA, d. 26 Jan 1843 in Langhorne. This Isaac EYRE was a Ship builder in EYRE and LANDELL. Isaac EYRE was a Quaker, but the marriage was not performed in a Quaker Meeting, and I have found no minutes about this (at the time, he would have been removed from membership for this and this would have been recorded). It is therefore assumed, that the COOPER family was not Quaker, but extremely successful business-wise (?). Thank you! David Eyre -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net

    1. [NJCAMDEN] Death Certificate
    2. jangil1
    3. I recently (March 25) sent a request for a death record to the State of New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services in Trenton, N. J. Today it was returned because I did not put a specific day of the month. The only information I had was June, 1951. Apparently all the other info was acceptable. My question is: Does the state of New Jersey have an index of deaths available in the libraries, maybe on microfilm or microfiche? We have them in our small town library for our state (Florida) and if I go to a larger town, such as Jacksonville, I can find our neighboring state as well. Although some early years, such as 1951 would not show the day of the month, it will give a volume # and certificate # which is a guide that our Vital Statistics Office will accept. I would appreciate any input on solutions to this problem. I really want this information. Thanks, Harriett in Palatka, FL

Vince >From the Federation of Genealogical Society's "Forum" publication, Vol. 14, no. 1 (Spring 2002), p. 25: "The Customer Services Unit of the New Jersey Department of health and Senior Services in Trenton has a response letter which says, in part, 'There will no longer be year before and year after searches. The Search Unit Staff will search the requested year and the requested year *only* in response to a customer request.' The policy is stated thus: 'The Bureau of Vital Statistics will no longer accept a request to search or certify a birth, marriage or death record within our files unless the person who is making the request is able to provide the following information: a) The *exact* name that is currently recorded on the birth, marriage or death record (first middle last); b) The *exact* place of birth, marriage or death (city); c) The *exact* date of birth, marriage or death (month day year); d) The mother's maiden name; e) The father's name (when recorded).' The letter ends with '**There is no exception to this rule.**' [Gary Mokotoff received the information from Ada Greenblatt in January 2002]"

    1. [NJCAMDEN] Correction for Camden Naturalization.
    2. Chris Evans
    3. Chris: You should know that the NJ State Archives removed the naturalization records from the Camco Clerk's office on Mickle Blvd some three or four years ago. So, when they get a request, they must contact the state archives to obtain a copy of the record. You can circumvent this extra step by going directly to the archives. Gloucester County does have copies of some of the films, and hopefully they will have the one you need. .

    2. Chris Evans
    3. Hi all. Thought I would pass along this informatin that I received. Many thanks to the folks who suggested this: I would suggest you try the Camden County House. That is where the records are usually kept. They are located at 5th and Mickle Blvd. City Hall Room, Camden, NJ 08101. 609-757-7085. Also another suggestion was checking with the Gloucester County Historical Society. This I sent a email to asking if they can help and to let me know what they would charge as I would send the money right out. Also a website that allows you to print a form out to mail.. http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/natural.html Sorry its a little long. But had a few requests for answers that I had received. Chris

    3. Many thanks to all who replied about how to obtain and where to go for records.. I am hoping that this will help me with my Joseph FItzgerald. So many Fitzgeralds out there in the Camden, Moorestown,Maple Shade area and not are mine. I will just keep posting and hopefully someone else in this big Irish family will start research and we catch each other. Happy Hunting Chris
