"I know the BEETLEs and my greatgrand father EASTLACK are buried on the Black Horse Pike at a little Methodist church." Joan
Hi, Folks... My cousins sent me a letter that contains this: "I know the BEETLEs and my greatgrand father EASTLACK are buried on the Black Horse Pike at a little Methodist church." Also, "My greatgrand mother Mary Ellis Greenan* was married a second time. No children by that marriage-they were older. Mary's first husband William died in N.Y. of T.B. when they were young and she was left to raise the 3 children. She came to N.J. met Mr. Greenan in Gloucester and fell in love." *[Maiden name ELLIS, had married an EASTLACK, first.] Is anyone acquainted of where this church cemetery would be, and does anyone have these surnames, or could send computer images of stones of these names, or anything else that would help? Thanks, Vince Summers

So your David L GRASSO is: DAVID GRASSO 31 Dec 1914 Jun 1987 08083 (Somerdale, Camden, NJ) 160-03-7774 Pennsylvania You don't know his parents. Well, this is only a wild shot, but in that same SSN site, it lists: DAVID GRASSO 10 Jun 1891 Feb 1974 15206 (Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA) 200-42-8065 Pennsylvania I pick this for 2 reasons... 1. The age difference is about 22-3 years. This is a normal difference between ages of father and son. 2. David born 1914 had his SSN issued in Pennsylvania. Possibly because he lived in Pennsylvania at the time! No other PA David Grasso is listed. There are only 2 Charlotte GRASSOs listed. True, Charlotte might have outlived her husband and gotten a new surname. Or, she could have reverted back to her maiden name, or not gone by the name Charlotte. Both of the listed Charlottes are a good handful of years older than your David GRASSO. There are 4 Charlotte GRASSOs listed at http://www.switchboard.com/ but not one of them appears in New Jersey - one each in MI, AZ, NY, and ME. I only considered a living Charlotte in view of the age difference. Of course, she could be alive and be going under D. GRASSO or David GRASSO or even Dave GRASSO. A search engine reveals two David GRASSOs (perhaps sons?) living in NJ. David Grasso, (609) 729-7234, 110 W Crocus Rd, Wildwood, NJ 08260 David S Grasso, (201) 802-0172, 47 Nottingham Ct, Montvale, NJ 07645 I did some searching and found a PA/NJ researcher *named* GRASSO. Donna GRASSO email: [email protected] There is also an Alfred ZICCARDI who is looking for Pennsylvania GRASSOs. His address is: [email protected] If David L. GRASSO had a mother, maiden name LEWIS, almost surely the L middle initial stands for Lewis (especially as this sounds like a great male middle name). Looking for an Edna GRASSO in SSDI gives only two probable ones, and two with incorrect middle initials. The two probable ones are: Edna Grasso b Dec 16 1896 and d Jan 1984 at 07728 Freehold, Monmouth, New Jersey. Issued NJ. The other is illogical, being Texas. I checked the 1921 Philadelphia City Directory to see if the PA connection could be Philadelphia - a likely possibility. The answer is - quite possibly no. No David GRASSO is listed in that PCD. My hunch is either Luzerne County or Allegheny County PA, or Monmouth Co NJ for list queries. I am afraid that is about all the attempted help I can give... Thanks for your nice commendations! this is specifically to the above named person at the inn 118 email address and one vince summers quite awhile back though in terms of family tree people who chase down those branches that another lovely person described as branches that fall off and get covered over with dirt;;; you two helped me with my maternal great grandfather the little bitty shoemaker from camden guess what i had a huge breakthrough A BIG ONE turns out he was part of the settlement of somers point and his mothers branch goes all the way back to the 1000 and i am still trying to record all THAT info with all those lovely names and his fathers side goes back to the pilgrims what a motherlode am still reeling from the discovery my little bitty shoemaker opened up so much and you two helped by forwarding info to me so just as a possibility with much hope and all that here goes have a maternal uncle from the same branch who disappeared from our lives and i cant find anything on this guy lots of grasso running around and he has two sons he died and his wife died ah the vagaries of the family history nut who keeps on despite the frustration i have his info but i dont know anything about his father the census lists his father as being born in Virginia listed as VA?? could be PA?? they made a mistake with my grandmothers middle name apparently they mistook the cursive C for an E this uncles name is David L Grasso his wifes name was Charlotte maiden name unknown their sons were are ?? Thought this might be of interest... The following article is from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and is copyright 2002 by Richard W. Eastman. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. - Digital Publications from the New Jersey State Library The New Jersey State Library recently has been trying to publish on their web site various useful sources of interest to their patrons, many of which in the future may be of interest to genealogists. Sources at the State Library that receive a lot of use or those that are in poor condition may be earmarked for further electronic publication by the State Library as they receive grants and funding for individual projects. Two publications recently finished include: Proceedings of the [New Jersey] Constitutional Convention, 1947, an out-of-print, five- volume set dealing with the government's recording of the debates and proceedings of the Committee that framed the 1947 NJ state constitution; and more importantly for genealogists, Record of Officers and Men of New Jersey in the Civil War, 1861-1865, originally published in 1876 by William S. Stryker, State Adjutant General, which is a standard for New Jersey genealogical research. The web publications provide full Boolean searching (and, or, not, near...) and also allows for browsing through the book, either page by page or by individually marked sections, including links to contents pages, prefaces, and sections of the original books. For Stryker's work, this is especially helpful since not only can you search for names of possible Civil War Veterans, but you can also browse the table of contents for the place in the book where certain regiments are outlined (rather than searching through a multitude of hits). The Boolean searching is quite extensive, involving the use of wildcards, searching a word that is within a certain proximity to another, words that are adjacent, and other advanced search options. See the site's "Searching Tips section for a full description at: http://www.njstatelib.org/plweb/operat.html. Online help is also provided. Both databases were well constructed. The publications are available from the State Library web site at the following locations: Proceedings of the [New Jersey] Constitutional Convention, 1947 at http://www.njstatelib.org/cyberdesk/DIGIDOX/Digidox21.htm Record of Officers and Men of New Jersey in the Civil War at http://www.njstatelib.org/cyberdesk/DIGIDOX/Digidox20.htm
Thanks to everyone who answered my question about York Street. The consensus is not to go unless I am "street" wise - which I am not! I have a picture of my father taken around 1910 and he and his older sister are sitting on the front steps of this lovely 3 story row home. It would not surprise me if the house was not even there any longer. Again - - my thanks. Does anyone know if the Historical Societies are closing at any point over the summer? I need to visit several and will need to know in advance to schedule myself for the summer. Can anyone tell me if there are still homes standing on York Street in Camden? I am interested in knowing about 555. That is where my father was born back when it was a lovely neighborhood. I have been told not to go and check this out. Is it really that bad now? Looking for some kind soul who would use the 1880 index to see if they could possibly find the following: Joseph Fitzgerald age 14-17 born in Ireland. John FItzgerald ( his brother) age 6-8 born in NJ. I have searched over 2500 pages in Camden , Burlington 1880 census with no luck. Since I have relatives buried in Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill, and a few in other Cherry Hill Cemeteries and found some in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery I feel they had to of been in this area. Joseph is on the 1900 census with his brother John living with him. Would be interested in finding him for the 1880 to find his parents. I do have have ancestery.com census and data subscription and would be more than glad to return a favor. Also if anyone is researching FItzgeralds or Mclaughlins, I transcribed the names today from Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Moorestown and would be glad to send to you. Please email me off the list. [email protected] Thank you in advance Chris
