Dear Marie and Gary, Had a wonderful time with you, and hope you someday stop in and see us. The trip home as I mentioned on the phone was easy - no traffic. We're not use to that!! We still can't get over the miracle of the crab, don't think we will ever witness such a sight. Thank you for the tour. I will try not to tell too many people about your little secret of Wanchese. We spoke to our son David who lives in N.C. and he mentioned that he had been to Manteo, but never to the other end of the Island. I better sign off, as you can imagine I have a zillion email letters to reply to. Again thank you for a wonderful visit. Love Harry and Shirley

Could some kind soul please tell me where to go to research an obit for a Collingswood resident that died Aug. 26 1968 ? Thank you, Carl [email protected]
Carl, The Collingswood Library has the Weekly Retrospect on microfilm which included obituaries of local people (1904 to the present). The problem is that after 1960 or so, the Retrospect generally had an abbreviated version of the obituary printed in the Courier-Post. The only place I know of in the Camden County area that has the 1968 Courier-Post is the Rutgers-Camden Library. Hello listers, Well, I have been waiting and waiting for the 1920 census to get online. It finally did. Then I waited some more for Connecticut to be indexed. What a wait! But, it finally got there on Thursday. YEAH!!!! Been looking to find my gggrands brother to confirm his age and immigration year. An easy name NEUMANN, I finally had to do a soundex search. Finally got to CT and Tolland County. There it was listed as Frank NEWMANN. At Last.........wrong, the census page I need is "MISSING". Oh the page before and after are there, but of course, the one I have been holding my breathe for and checking for every night ISN'T. Figures eh? Would SKS going to any archives, library, historic society please check this out for me? I would be in your eternal debt. Anyone in the household too. NEWMANN, Frank age 68 Vernon, Tolland County, CT ED 321, page/sheet 1B Hoping wife is still living and her age (Bertha) Possibly his son (Alfred Frank age 38) and family too. email me off list if you are willing Thanks all, Diane Personal Website http://www.shovergen.com/Ghosts.html Burlington County, NJ Genealogy Website Coordinator http://www.shovergen.com/njburlin/index.html Rootsweb Mailing List Administrator CRISPIN, HACKNEY, SHOVER

Could someone check this record for me. I am trying to learn the birthdate, etc., on Keziah Landers Steele Beagary Carter. She was my 3 great grandmother. John Beagary her second husband was my 3 great grandfather. Her parents were John Landers and Mary Lupton. This family has roots in Camden, NJ and Lancaster County & Philadelphia, PA. I have a family group photo that identifies her (late 1880s) as great grandmother Carter. Her daughter Elizabeth P. BEAGARY married CHARLES J. FIELD of Philadelphia. Their daughter CATHERINE ADELE FIELD was my great grandmother. She married Herbert J. Russell of Worcester and their child, Raymond Field Russell was my grandfather. I just found a marriage listing on LDS family search site for this: KEZIAH BEAGARY M. JEREMIAH CARTER 17 Mar 1852 CAMDEN, CAMDEN, NJ Thank you so much. Okay guys I did not mean to start a small war over the Social Security I forwarded. I for one found it very interesting , had never known that before and thought others would be interested to know. I did not post it to start trouble.

It doesn't really matter where you *lived* at the time but it does matter where the card was obtained. Joan
This is not entirely true. I was born in NJ, got my SS # at age 12 and mine begins 177. I lived in NJ until I was 26. Hi all. Many thanks from a fellow list member who sent this to our list today. I had never heard this before and wanted to pass it along. Hi. I found this, and thought you might find it interesting. I know it has came in handy for me. ~Stacy The Social Security number can provide valuable information. The first three digits represent the state where the individual first applied. Often this was where he or she was born. At least it is a place to begin a search for other records. Recent death certificates contain this number. Here is table of the codes and their respective states: 001-003 New Hampshire 440-448 Oklahoma 004-007 Maine 449-467 Texas 008-009 Vermont 468-477 Minnesota 010-034 Massachusetts 478-485 Iowa 035-039 Rhode Island 486-500 Missouri 040-049 Connecticut 501-502 North Dakota 050-134 New York 503-504 South Dakota 135-158 New Jersey 505-508 Nebraska 159-211 Pennsylvania 509-515 Kansas 212-220 Maryland 516-517 Montana 221-222 Delaware 518-519 Idaho 223-231 Virginia 520 Wyoming 232 West Virginia & North Carolina 521-524 Colorado 233-236 West Virginia 525 New Mexico 237-246 North Carolina 526-527 Arizona 247-251 South Carolina 528-529 Utah 252-260 Georgia 530 Nevada 261-267 Florida 531-539 Washington 268-302 Ohio 540-544 Oregon 303-317 Indiana 545-573 California 318-361 Illinois 574 Alaska 362-386 Michigan 575-576 Hawaii 387-399 Wisconsin 577-579 District of Columbia 400-407 Kentucky 580 Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico 408-415 Tennessee 581-584 Puerto Rico 416-424 Alabama 585 New Mexico 425-428 Mississippi 586 Guam, Philippines & America Samoa 429-432 Arkansas 587 Mississippi 433-439 Louisiana 700-728 Railroad Retirement Board (all States) (You may have to copy this into a spreadsheet, and clean it up a bit if you want to print it.
