Does anyone have FRANCIS J. ABEL in his/her family tree? He married MAE KILLE sometime after 1940. [email protected]
<<The Burlington County Library, which is in Mount Holly, has microfilms of most, if not all, of the newspapers published. And there was a 3x5 index of people, but --very important-- when I was there I noticed that not all people mentioned in the paper were indexed. So, if you don't find whom you are looking for in the 3x5 cards and have a date of death, do pull the microfilms and search.>> Does BCLibrary have Camden papers, too, like in 1957? Looking for obit for ALVIN H. KILLE, died Oct. 19,1957...he lived on ParK Ave. in Collingswood, NJ. [email protected]
Most funeral homes keep their records. A funeral home that has helped me out in Massachusetts has been in business for over a hundred years and still have all of their records. From what I understand if someone buys a funeral home business the records are normally transferred to the new owner. The funeral home I have looked for in Ohio, just sold out and their records disappeared. A funeral home in upstate N.Y. actually went to the cemetery for me and look for the grave of my ancestor. They will very often have record of the person who gave the information, if they were a veteran and you can find out what church they may have belonged to. I would definitely take the chance and write. I read somewhere that local libraries will sometimes have funeral home records. I saw the post about Foster's Funeral home and was wondering if the funeral homes do keep records back to the 50's or so and if they do, what kind of information they would have other than the death date. My great aunt was buried from John A. Healy's in Haddon Heights. I checked online and got their number, but I figured if someone else has contacted a funeral home I would find out what kinds of things they would have in their records before I call. If all they have is the death date it wouldn't make any sense to bother them, since I already have that. What I'm interested in is who took care of the funeral arrangements and whether her husband was buried from there and his date of death, which I don't have. I would love to hear from anyone who has experience with contacting funeral homes, especially the John A. Healy one. Thanks. Bette LoPresti Hollywood, FL

I want to thank everyone on the list who wrote to me with suggestions and information on St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Calvary Cemetery, and the Audubon High School yearbooks. I will be calling the cemetery to find out the lot number and also contacting the High School to find out if they can check some old yearbooks. And thanks to the directions I will have no trouble finding the cemetery when I get up there this summer. Thanks again to all for such a warm welcome to the list. Bette LoPresti Hollywood, FL
Hi, I just joined this list in the hopes of discovering if anyone has an Audubon High School yearbook from the '40's to early 50's that could check to see if there is any mention of a Mayme Weideman. She was my great aunt and according to her obituary in August of 1951 she ran a luncheonette across the street from Audubon Hish School and was known as "mom" to thousands of Audubon High School students that she served during the 20 years that she operated the luncheonette. I was wondering if there is anyone on this list who went to school there in the '30's to '50's and might remember her and if maybe one or more of the yearbooks might have mentioned her or the luncheonette. Also, the obiturary says her funeral was at St. Rose of Lima Church in Haddon Heights and she was buried in Calvary Cemetery. This summer I am hoping to come north and would like to go to this cemetery. Is this in Audubon or Haddon Heights or elsewhere? Any help would be greatfully appreciated. Bette LoPresti Hollywood, FL

Your best bet is to seach an 1860 census online for Nelson when it becomes available. (such as ancestry.com) Sea Captains were just that -- in charge of sailing vessels that plied the oceans delivering goods, people, emigrants, livestock, etc. I imagine a search for a Maritime museum or Historical Society history books would provide more detail on Sea Captains. Does anyone have access to the 1930's ED's? Several years ago a friend online found my great grandmother's brother - Thomas James Jones - on the 1920 census. He was married, wife's name Marcia and a step son. I lost the email and never got it into my files. I did not copy down the stepson's name. it would make my search so much easier. To date, I have scoured Thomas Jones' in NJ 1920, but can't seem to find him. He was killed in 1923. Per his death certificate, he lived in Irish Hill. Can someone tell me where that was? Hi Brian, There were quite a few William SCUDDERs around -- just to make searches interesting! Capt. William CORSON SCUDDER was a sea captain, b. April 21, 1823, in Upper Twp, Cape May Co., NJ. My grgrgrandfather, John G. SCUDDER, was a younger brother. His parents were David and Martha Gandy SCUDDER. He went to sea at age 15 as a mate, working his way up to Capt. as a young man. He operated a Lumber Co., hauling lumber by ship and eventually moved to Camden, NJ, along the Delaware River. He bought a steam planing mill and manufactured wooden sashes and blinds in Camden with a partner. He eventually bought him out and owned SCUDDER Lumber Co., then SCUDDER & Son Lumber. He became the Master Port Warden in Camden until his death on Dec. 19, 1898. Over the years he provided many jobs for SCUDDER relatives who moved from Cape May CO. to Camden CO. during the industrial era. Hope you find your other William SCUDDER.
