    1. Re: [NJBurlin] Burlington Friends Meeting Recorded Record
    2. Early Church Records of Burlington County, New Jersey, by Charlotte D. Meldrum is published by Family Line Publications, Westminster, MD. Vol. 1 is the records of Burlington Monthly Meeting (Quaker). There seems to be some question as to whether Alice Alday was an Indian or not--although the Unami as a branch of the Lenni-Lenape were in the area at the time--so it is possible. However, it looks as if Robert Zane had no children with Alice --the mothers of his children apparently were his first wife, Margaret HAMMOND and his 3rd wife Elizabeth WILLIS. You say the "marriage certificate was signed by the religious and social leaders of the community." Actually this is the way Quaker marriage ceremonies are recorded. The couple make their vow to each other (essentially marrying themselves) while the guests and friends and family watch and each signs the marriage record as a witness and the bride and groom sign as husband and wife for the first time. >From what I'm able to gather it doesn't appear that anything in the marriage record itself says that Alice ALDAY was an Indian or Chief's daughter -- this information was added later and is questionable. Since the couple had no children, it doesn't appear to be extremely important that the matter be sorted out though. Joan In a message dated 8/1/2008 12:32:00 A.M. If counties what county would it be back then. I do not know if it was Burlington Twp. or Burlington County, I do not think the counties had been formed yet, but I do not know that to be so. The marriage was at the Burlington Friends Meeting List, it was only the 3rd marriage recorded in the First Book of the Burlington Friends Meeting. The Marriage Certificate was signed by the religious and social leaders of the community. The information that I have is out of the book: "Genealogy of the Descendants of Thomas French" by Howard Barclay French it is on PAGE: XiX = SPIRIT AND MISSION OF QUAKERISM it Starts off: One of the Earliest marriages at Burlington, number three on the recorded Friends Meeting list. I do not know if this is the same names or not it maybe that the names I give here are from another marriage and if so I would like information on both of them. The names I have would be: Capt. Robert ZANE & Alice ALDAY, Daughter of the Chief of Unami Clan of the Lenni-Lenape Tribe: Sachem ALDAY. Are the series of books Published? If so by whom and where? What would be the full title of the series of books? Along with any other information you can give me on them, this is all I have for now. Thank you until we talk again, peace be with you and yours. 3. Hi Joan I wonder if the information on Sachem ALDAY Chief of the Unami Clan of the Lenni-Lenape Tribe is right. And if so did he have anymore children, it only speaks of this one daughter, he could have had others that were grown or lived else where, any it is just a thought but a good one I think. Thank you until we talk again, peace be with you and yours. Theodore R.
