May the 8 1863 Deer mother I now sit down to anser your kind and welcom leter and wase glad to hear from you and to hear that you al wase well (unable to make out next few words)lines leves(?) me at present deer mother we have had one of the hardest batels that ever wase fot but I wase saved but we had a grate meny kild and wouned out of our redgment we had 3 kild ded William Malsbery John Huden/Buden (? unsure of first letter H/B) and denes green wase kild ded on the field and a grate meny wouned I have not got time to menchen the names of them and I wil tell you in my next leter Give my love to my deer wife and tell her that I am al rite and I hope I soon be at home I don't think we wil get in eny mor fits in our(?) time Wel I have not got time to rite eny mor sow I wil close by sinding you all my love from your son love Danly plese rite soon On the reverse of the letter is written;(first word looks like) Ganty Cliver is al rite I also have the envelope it was mailed in. It is addressed to: Mrs. Elizabeth Cliver Pemberton Burlington County NJ The return address is: Soldiers Letter W.J.
