    1. Re: [NJBurlin] Chairville, NJ and it's mills
    2. Chairville, or what is left of it (a name on a map). Was at one time part of Medford Township, before Southampton broke away. I have birth records from Medford Twp in the 1850's that has the place of birth as Chairville, Medford Township. Originally Peacock's Mill was there as early as 1790, then came the Chair Factory. Both in operation as late as 1860, but, by 1876, just the sawmill remained, until sometime in the 1890's Chairville is located on the east boundary of Medford Township, was founded by John N Prickitt and was destroyed by fire April 17, 1874. On a map, the road, Chairville is in Medford, The name on a map is in Southampton, the river where the mills were is on the border, guess you can decide for yourself. As far as I know, Southampton Township was never called Chairville. Just a few things I thought I'd add to help out >http://www.medfordnj.com/history/history.html > >Southampton Twp was previously named Chairville. This site has the mills >that were in this town owned by many of the familiar family names of >Burlington Co besides other historical info. > >Bill Abrams > Diane DeMore Burlington County Website Co-ordinator -------------------
