Searching these records can bring some wonderful things...like a picture of the man I wrote about. It took a year to get the file because the secretaries of the Lodge kept transferring records to others, but when I got it, I got the picture of a person I had never seen! Well regulated Masonic lodges have extensive historical files usually stored in museums within the lodges. I was secretary of a lodge with records dated back to its formation in early 1800. Great source if you can get to the right person.
