I subscribed to the census image database on Ancestry.com and wondered why early NJ records were not included. I asked a librarian and received this answer.. The 1790, 1800, and 1810 census schedules for Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Virginia were burned during the War of 1812. According to the National Archives, New Jersey records were not included in the 1820 Census.
