    1. Re: [NJBurlin] LEWIS, 1870 census lookup

    3. Thanks for responding, Debbie. I don't have those names in my files, however I don't reject them as not being related. Just don't know. My LEWIS family moved from Monmouth Co NJ to Shelby Co OH between 1835 and 1839. They were all there, along with inlaws and siblings, until all but brother Samuel disappeared between 1866 and 1870. As a long shot I checked the 1870 NJ census and lo and behold, I found my Aaron LEWIS's brother William H. in Ocean Co NJ. He had been in OH for at least 20 years. Since he now owned $4,000 real estate as compared to $0 in OH, I suspect his wife Ellen BOSETH probably inherited the farm and back they came to NJ. Now I'm trying to figure out if the whole family might have returned to NJ. Brother Sam mentioned above was born abt 1808 in NJ. He was still in OH in 1870. The only children I have listed for him are a son Samuel Firman LEWIS b 1837 in NJ and dau Elenor LEWIS, b 1839 in OH. The line for the Aaron LEWIS I am looking for is: Aaron born 1814, Monmouth Co, m Ellen/Elenor VOORHEES, in Monmouth, 1835. Joel Lewis born 1782, Monmouth, m Ann La(y)ton, b 1789 in Monmouth 1806. David Lewis b abt 1756 Shrewesbury, Monmouth m Mary Patterson, b 1761 Mary's line goes back to the famous scalping victim, Penelope Stout..
